Primary care day saves lives and builds health<\/h4>\n
In places where access to healthcare is nearly nonexistent, every diagnosis, every vaccine, every conversation can change the course of someone’s life.<\/p>\n
On March 20<\/strong>, in Hudumburung<\/a>, a remote village near Kawangu, East Sumba, Fair Future organised a full day of Primary Medical Care<\/a> to address pressing health challenges. Operating from sunrise until late afternoon, a committed team of 30 to 35<\/strong> individuals\u2014comprising health professionals, doctors, burses, field coordinators, and local volunteers\u2014attended to the needs of over 150 patients<\/a>.<\/p>\n The primary mission<\/strong> was to detect and treat cases of malaria<\/strong> and tuberculosis<\/strong>, two prevalent and lethal diseases in the area that significantly impact public health. Using rapid diagnostic tests\u00a0(RDTs),<\/em> our teams efficiently diagnosed numerous malaria cases<\/a><\/span>.<\/a> It’s important to mention that distributing insecticide-treated mosquito nets to families without them significantly bolsters prevention efforts. Concurrently, we conducted screenings for tuberculosis, a highly infectious respiratory disease that spreads through droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes.<\/p>\n Vaccinations were pivotal in our efforts<\/strong>, with around twenty children aged five and under receiving vaccines. Vaccinations are a critical preventive measure, safeguarding against various pediatric diseases and contributing to community-wide immunity. The children, although sometimes hesitant, gained the protection essential for their health.<\/p>\n Veronika<\/a>, a Kawan Sehat Health Agent<\/a> and a familiar face from our documentary<\/a> “A Day in My Life<\/a>,” proved invaluable in this endeavour. Her intimate knowledge of the community and compassion enabled us to prioritise the most vulnerable populations: the elderly with chronic illnesses, children presenting with infections or fevers, and families in urgent need of medical attention. Her dedication exemplifies the essence of our mission for Primary Medical Care<\/a>.<\/p>\n The distribution of essential medicines-<\/strong> including antibiotics, antipyretics, wound care supplies, and antiparasitic medications- is vital for community health care. Thanks to Rotary’s<\/a> generous donations, we can address various health problems and promote lasting well-being. This support<\/a> is crucial for maintaining public health<\/strong> since these medicines help manage infections<\/strong>, reduce fever<\/strong>, treat wounds<\/strong>, and control parasitic disease<\/strong>s\u2014all essential for community well-being and epidemic prevention. These contributions highlight the impact of philanthropic efforts in the health sector.<\/p>\n Education and prevention<\/a> underpinned our efforts. We exhibited nine informative posters<\/a>, engaging community members in discussions on malaria prevention<\/a>, waste management<\/a>, tobacco hazards<\/a>, alcohol risks<\/a>, and balanced nutrition.<\/a> The objective was to empower residents with knowledge to manage and maintain their healthproactivelyl.y<\/p>\n The day’s activitie<\/a>s transcended medical treatment; they epitomised a shared humanitarian mission<\/a>.
