Nutrition education is critical to our mission. Our volunteers teach nutritious meal preparation using local resources in schools. These sessions are community gatherings where new flavours and foods are discovered, encouraging the incorporation of essential nutrients into traditional rice-based diets.

For instance, in Laindatang, daily educational cooking sessions for nearly a month represent a collective effort to explore and embrace healthier food options, preserving individual and community health. The future and health of these communities, especially the thousands of children, depend significantly on these efforts.

Access to clean water and proper nutrition is transforming the lives of East Sumba’s communities. Together, we can build a healthier future.” — Alex Wettstein, CEO and Founder of Fair Future

Our fieldwork, awareness and education strategies are fundamental to instituting lasting changes. This comprehensive approach aims to improve the quality of life and ensure a healthier future for these ultra-rural populations.

Proper nutrition is crucial in our fight against infectious diseases in East Sumba. By promoting diverse diets rich in essential nutrients, we empower communities to build robust immune systems and improve their resilience against health challenges worsened by poor sanitation and limited medical resources. This approach integrates nutritional education with broader health initiatives, significantly impacting the ongoing health struggles these communities face.

The Fair Future Foundation is paving the way for a brighter and healthier future for the people of East Sumba through the combined efforts of clean water access, nutritional education, and health awareness.

Alex Wettstein – Fair Future Foundation medico-social camp in East Sumba – Rumah Kambera, Lambanapu – The 29th of May 2024

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row admin_label=”Row for the Gallery or the Album” _builder_version=”4.24.0″ _module_preset=”default” background_color=”#FFFFFF” background_enable_color=”on” width=”100%” width_last_edited=”off|desktop” custom_margin=”3vh||0vh||false|false” custom_padding=”0vh|0vw|0vh|0vw|true|true” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}” width__hover_enabled=”off|desktop”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.18.0″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text admin_label=”Title: Healthy lifestyle in East Sumba through water and healthy nutrition” module_id=”the-gallery-of-this-post” _builder_version=”4.25.1″ _dynamic_attributes=”link_option_url” _module_preset=”185a3fb0-2550-4b28-82a3-fe2c347e493e” text_font=”Open Sans|800|||||||” text_text_color=”#111111″ text_font_size=”24px” text_line_height=”1em” header_4_font=”||||||||” header_4_line_height=”1em” text_orientation=”center” custom_margin=”0vh||0vh||true|false” custom_padding=”15px|15px|15px|15px|true|false” link_option_url=”@ET-DC@eyJkeW5hbWljIjp0cnVlLCJjb250ZW50IjoicG9zdF9saW5rX3VybF9lbnZpcmEiLCJzZXR0aW5ncyI6eyJwb3N0X2lkIjoiMzYyNTIxIn19@” text_font_size_tablet=”30px” text_font_size_phone=”18px” text_font_size_last_edited=”on|phone” border_width_top=”1px” border_color_top=”rgba(221,221,221,0.7)” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}” background_color__hover=”#ededed” background_enable_color__hover=”on” text_letter_spacing__hover_enabled=”off|desktop” text_letter_spacing__hover=”1px” text_text_color__hover_enabled=”off|hover” text_text_color__hover=”#111111″]

Healthy lifestyle in East Sumba through water and healthy nutrition

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_code admin_label=”Code Envira: %91envira-gallery id=%22392807%22%93″ module_id=”the-gallery” module_class=”text-link-fff-blue” _builder_version=”4.25.1″ _module_preset=”default” width=”100%” custom_margin=”0px||0px||false|false” custom_padding=”0px|0px|0px|0px|false|false” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”] Access to clean water improves hygiene practices like handwashing and opens the door to healthier, more balanced nutrition. It enables safe cooking, risk-free drinking, and the preparation of nutritious meals, which are crucial for the overall health of communities.

However, the availability of water is only the first step. It is crucial to educate populations on proper dietary and lifestyle practices. To this end, the Fair Future Foundation has created four informative posters. These posters will be printed in over 10,000 copies and distributed throughout East Sumba, detailing how to lead a healthy life. They explain which foods are beneficial for health and which are to be avoided, how to adopt an active lifestyle, improve sleep quality, take care of oneself, and maintain cleanliness in one’s environment. Choosing the right foods goes beyond favouring certain products; it also includes learning new eating habits and enriching the traditional diet mainly based on rice with proteins, vitamins, fibres, and other essential nutrients for family health.

Our volunteers play a key role in this educational process. They are active in schools and classrooms and teach children, their parents, and teachers how to prepare meals with what is available locally, whether it’s from their garden, the area, the forest, or the local market. These collective cooking sessions are moments of sharing and learning where everyone discovers new flavours and foods they never imagined consuming before.

These activities like here in Laindatang, conducted daily for nearly a month, are not just cooking lessons. They are a collective exploration of what benefits our health, allowing us to preserve individual health and that of future families. The future and health of these communities and the thousands of children in these villages largely depend on it.

This fieldwork, combined with an awareness and education strategy, is essential for instituting lasting changes. It is a comprehensive approach to raising the quality of life and ensuring a healthier future for these extremely disadvantaged ultra-rural populations.

The role of nutrition in our daily struggle against infectious diseases in East Sumba cannot be overstated. Proper nutrition strengthens the immune system, reduces susceptibility to common infections, and speeds up recovery when illness does strike. By introducing diversified diets rich in essential nutrients, we equip communities with the defences to combat health challenges exacerbated by poor sanitation and limited access to medical resources. This holistic approach integrates nutritional education with our broader health initiatives, making a critical difference in these communities’ ongoing health battles.

We cordially invite all captivated by this story to explore our photo gallery, witness this extraordinary effort, and further engage with our mission through our Instagram account.

Alex Wettstein – Fair Future Foundation medico-social camp in East Sumba – Rumah Kambera, Lambanapu – the 24th of May, 2024.
