Two young girls from a remote village in Eastern Sumba have discovered clean water and private toilets for the first time thanks to Fair Future’s Water Connections initiative. This initiative provides essential sanitation facilities, significantly reducing the spread of infectious diseases and enabling women and girls to attend school regularly and participate actively in community life.<\/h1>\n

Empowering Women and Girls!<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Our latest “Photo of the Day”<\/strong><\/a> features two girls, aged around ten years<\/strong> old, residing in a remote village<\/strong> in East Sumba<\/strong>. This area is isolated<\/strong> and lacks electrical infrastructure, roads, or proper medical care unless they participate in our Primary Medical Care <\/a><\/strong>program or contact our Truck Of Life<\/strong><\/a> for assistance. It should be noted that these young ladies<\/strong> had never<\/strong> had access to a toilet<\/strong> until this very moment when they could close an actual door behind them and take advantage of the sanitary provisions while finally washing their hands<\/strong><\/a>!<\/p>\n

The Water Connections <\/strong><\/a>initiative includes clean water<\/a> tanks<\/strong> with capacities of 5,000<\/strong> and 10,000<\/strong> liters, like those that Pak Kudu Huring<\/strong><\/a> and the villagers built with us here. It also involves ultra-deep drilling techniques<\/strong> and several kilometres of buried HDPE pipes<\/strong><\/a> to ensure a clean water<\/a> supply for a healthy lifestyle, minimize infections, preserve<\/strong> lives, and save entire villages from dehydration-related problems.<\/p>\n

The numerous toilets<\/strong> and sanitation facilities<\/strong> built by Fair Future<\/strong><\/a> and Kawan Baik<\/strong><\/a> in highly remote villages symbolise our tireless fight against diseases transmitted by contaminated water, inadequate sanitation and the absence of domestic toilets.<\/p>\n

For the first time, they have access to clean water<\/strong><\/a>, which allows their parents to prepare nutritious meals<\/strong><\/a> from produce from their garden<\/a>. A hygienic toilet<\/strong> is crucial for everyone’s well-being and safety when disposing of waste without risking health problems.<\/p>\n

Providing clean<\/strong> and hygienic <\/strong>sanitation facilities<\/a> profoundly impacts rural communities, significantly reducing the spread of infectious diseases<\/a> such as Malaria<\/strong><\/a>, diarrhoea<\/a>, typhoid feve<\/a>r<\/strong> and dysentery<\/strong><\/a>. Private toilets<\/strong> are essential for women and girls<\/strong> as they promote dignity and safety in maintaining personal hygiene<\/a> \u2013 especially during their menstrual cycle or pregnancy<\/strong>. With access to proper sanitation facilities, the risk of recurrent illnesses caused by contaminated water decreases significantly<\/strong>, ensuring that children (especially girls)<\/em> can attend school without interruption due to health problems.<\/p>\n

Establishing\u00a0health infrastructure<\/strong>\u00a0improves individuals’ well-being and privacy.\u00a0Drinking water<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0hygienic facilities<\/strong>\u00a0that do not harbour disease-causing pathogens become accessible to families. This directly leads to a\u00a0better quality of life<\/strong>, better health outcomes,\u00a0and, therefore, the community’s overall well-being. Our goal, through the Water Connections<\/a> initiative<\/strong>, is to ensure access to fundamental resources that support livelihoods and enrich healthcare<\/strong> delivery while ensuring positive prospects for tomorrow’s generations.<\/p>\n
