Fair Future\u2019s new poster warns about the dangers of passive smoking in ultra-rural communities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n A poster that saves lives: Fair Future launches campaign against second-hand smoke<\/strong> |\u00a0 After weeks of hard work, Fair Future<\/a> and Kawan Baik<\/a> have completed their first tobacco prevention poster<\/a>. This design is not just a visual; it serves as a statement, a warning<\/strong>, and a call to action.<\/strong><\/p>\n The poster<\/a> is part of a comprehensive strategy developed over several weeks to support<\/strong> four major new public health campaigns<\/a>. It draws attention to the daily reality of remote rural villages in Indonesia, where smoking is widespread. In these communities, smokers inadvertently put their lives and the lives of those around<\/strong> them at risk: children, pregnant women, and families who never consented to breathing harmful smoke.<\/p>\n Second-hand smoke<\/a> is a major public health crisis, not just an individual risk. Globally, it kills 1.2 million<\/a> non-smokers each year<\/a> due to exposure to tobacco. However, in regions like Indonesia, the harmful effects of smoking are largely masked by misinformation<\/strong> and lack of public awareness.<\/strong><\/p>\n Tobacco is deeply embedded<\/strong> in Indonesian society, with Indonesia being one of the world\u2019s largest tobacco consumers. In Indonesia, approximately 34%<\/strong> of the population smokes, totalling around 61.4 million individuals<\/strong>. Among these smokers, 63% are men<\/strong> and 5% are women<\/strong>. This places Indonesia third globally<\/strong> in terms of the highest number of smokers.<\/strong><\/p>\n Unfortunately, there are no regulations<\/strong> in place to safeguard non-smokers. Public health education and mass awareness campaigns are lacking<\/strong>, leaving vulnerable individuals without government protection from daily exposure to this harmful substance<\/strong>. Consequently, millions of children<\/strong>, pregnant women<\/strong>, and non-smoking adults<\/strong> are compelled to inhale harmful air without any legal protection. While numerous countries have implemented stringent bans on smoking in public areas, Indonesia is still among<\/strong> the few places where indoor smoking\u2014in restaurants, offices, and even near children\u2014is commonly accepted and remains unregulated<\/p>\n That is why Fair Future<\/a> and Kawan Baik<\/a> are launching a major prevention campaign in March 2025 as a key part of our Primary Medical Care<\/a> programme. This initiative will be implemented in all regions<\/a> where we operate, focusing on schools, homes and public spaces in the most isolated communities.\u00a0<\/p>\n Education must be accessible<\/a> to people in their communities. To achieve this, we will distribute this poster<\/a> widely and print it on durable fabric<\/strong> for greater reach. This will allow us to take the message from house to house<\/strong> and village to village<\/strong>, reaching ultra-rural areas where conventional health messages often fail to penetrate<\/strong>.<\/p>\n We invite<\/a> all interested people to join this movement to share, distribute<\/strong> and collaborate<\/strong> with us.
