Our ZeroMalaria program<\/strong><\/a> is the frontline of defense<\/strong> against this scourge, and we’re making strides\u2014but we urgently need more resources<\/strong> as the rainy season approaches<\/strong>, which will bring a sharp rise in malaria cases<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Malaria<\/a> is not merely a medical term. It’s a ruthless parasite<\/strong> transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito. It wreaks havoc on the human body<\/strong>, leading to fever, chills, and severe illness<\/strong>, often causing organ failure and death<\/strong> if not treated rapidly. In Eastern Sumba<\/strong>, where medical facilities are scarce<\/strong>, a malaria<\/a> diagnosis isn’t just an inconvenience; it’s often a death sentence<\/strong>, especially for children and pregnant women<\/strong>. Access to rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs)<\/strong> is essential for swift and effective treatment<\/strong>. But the unavailability of RDTs means that people frequently resort to traditional methods, contributing to high mortality rates<\/strong>.<\/p>\n In Eastern Sumba<\/strong>, malaria<\/a> doesn’t just affect health\u2014it cripples communities<\/strong>. Given the inadequate sanitation and lack of clean water<\/strong>, the environment becomes a breeding ground for malaria-carrying mosquitoes<\/strong>.
