The Water Connections<\/strong><\/a> initiative in Laindatang<\/strong> <\/a>is an integral part of the village\u2019s efforts to improve living conditions<\/strong> and promote a better life for all residents, especially the 80 children<\/strong> aged six to twelve<\/strong> who attend the local school. Our teams on the ground attest that poverty<\/strong> is extreme<\/strong> in this area, as recognized by national authorities.<\/p>\nThe primary goal is to promote healthy and peaceful living by implementing measures\u00a0that provide access to\u00a0safe\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0clean water<\/strong><\/a><\/span>\u00a0and sanitation facilities<\/strong><\/a>. This also includes promoting hand hygiene<\/strong><\/a> and general cleanliness practices, teaching healthy lifestyle<\/a> skills, improving the physical fitness<\/strong> of villagers and children, enhancing their diets, and encouraging them to adopt healthy lifestyles throughout their community.<\/p>\nTwo years ago<\/strong>, we launched the first phase<\/strong> of the project. Currently, our teams are working on developing phase 3<\/strong>, which involves deep drilling<\/strong>. Additionally, we have implemented the \u201cNutrition for All\u201d<\/strong> program and continue our efforts to eradicate malaria<\/strong> <\/a>through the \u201cZero Malaria<\/a>\u201d<\/strong> campaign in Laindatang<\/strong><\/a>. The past four months<\/strong> have been intense work and remarkable progress for the Water Connections<\/a> project in Laindatang<\/a>, East Sumba. This project, which aims to provide clean water to an entire community, has reached the crucial milestones of phases 2 and 3<\/strong> and is now entering phase 4. More than 600 people<\/strong>, including nearly 100 childre<\/strong>n attending Laindatang<\/a> school, now benefit from clean water sources<\/strong>. Their lives have been transformed<\/strong>, and this change is only just beginning<\/strong>.<\/p>\nAccess to clean water<\/a> has a profound impact on every aspect<\/strong> of life in this community. The education and training days we organized for children and their parents were essential in promoting healthy living<\/strong>. We taught them how to prevent disease<\/strong>, improve their diet<\/strong> and use available resources efficiently. Our training materials, in particular the six posters<\/strong> that we have produced, are valuable tools in this educational process. With clean water<\/strong>, gardening becomes an accessible and productive activity. Growing your vegetables is no longer a distant dream but a daily reality for the residents of Laindatang<\/a>. We not only teach them how to grow these vegetables but also how to cook them to maximize their nutritional benefits. These skills are crucial<\/strong> in the fight against malnutrition<\/strong>, which mainly affects children in this region.<\/p>\nThe drilling work, carried out with unequal intensity<\/strong> and determination<\/strong>, lasted three months. Although we are not yet finished, we are getting closer<\/strong> to the goal. The water<\/a> is there<\/strong> and ready<\/strong> to be distributed throughout the Laindatang<\/a> region. Thanks to our collective efforts, drilling was carrie<\/strong>d out for the first time in this region’s history.<\/p>\nAccess to clean water<\/a> is the foundation of our fight against infectious diseases<\/strong> such as malaria<\/a>, polio, dengue and tuberculosis. Without clean water<\/a>, these diseases continue to spread<\/strong> and threaten the health and lives of the population.
