Rumah Kambera: The Heart of Fair Future’s Mission in East Sumba
As a center of care, innovation, and community, Rumah Kambera symbolizes hope, resilience, and sustainable development.
In East Sumba’s heart, Rumah Kambera is integral to Kawan Baik and the Fair Future Foundation’s mission. Over the past five years, this modest yet vibrant base has become a hub of activity, compassion, and creativity, positively impacting many lives. Although we recently extended its lease, we aspire to create a permanent facility to enhance our work in the region further.
Here, the “Truck of Life” takes a well-deserved break after traversing harsh landscapes parked alongside scooters and bicycles that bring actions and real solutions to even the most remote villages. Rumah Kambera serves a dual purpose as a pharmacy/clinic and a coordination centre, featuring a pharmacy stocked with essential medicines and supplies to treat various illnesses, injuries, and infectious diseases. It exceeds the resources typically available at local Puskesmas health centres, establishing itself as a vital lifeline for the community.
We prioritize hygiene and healthy living as core values. Handwashing stations are essential amenities, smoking is prohibited, and every meal prepared by Ayu in our kitchen is both nutritious and delicious, setting a standard for the surrounding community. Our commitment to cleanliness extends beyond the kitchen, as no plastic waste leaves here untreated; it is transformed into eco-friendly bricks that support sustainable building projects benefiting the entire community.
The garden, an ongoing project, embodies our dedication to sustainability. It provides fresh produce and serves as a living symbol of our advocacy for healthy living. Nearby, a workshop and warehouse, diligently supervised by Primus, house essential tools such as pipes, solar panels, and pumps needed for our rescue missions. Organization is crucial here to ensure that every item is readily available when needed.
The rooms provide a “serene” refuge for team members like Ino, Erwin, Alex, and Ayu, capturing the essence of dedication and very little comfort. Adjacent to these rooms is a pharmacy stocked with medicines and malaria test kits, often vital to the locals.
Behind the house is a vast, barren field where laundry is hung out to dry under the blazing sun, a silent testament to the intense rural lifestyle of East Sumba. In this setting, a modest table and chairs offer a gathering place for team members, volunteers, and friends to connect and share meaningful moments together.
Rumah Kambera is not just a house; it embodies the mission of the Fair Future Foundation. It serves as a hub where strategies are developed, initiatives are born, and strong community connections flourish. Every part of this space exudes simplicity, care, and intention, driving us toward our goal of making lasting and transformative impacts. Rumah Kambera in Google Maps.
