Hello Kawans, dear friends, teman-teman,
Mbinudita is a preparatory village located in Praipaha village, Nggaha Ori Angu sub-district, East Sumba Regency. Kawan Baik has often visited since the end of 2019. At that time, emergency schools were a concern, with makeshift buildings built independently by parents who wanted their children to go to school because the distance to the main school was too far from their homes. After a storm and strong winds hit the school until the wind blew the roof and destroyed the entire building, Kawan Baik began to focus on helping to build the school more properly, plus various facilities for the Mbinudita community to gather.
When the world faces a pandemic, the process towards school construction must stop due to limited access in all sectors. In addition, economically the people in Sumba and especially Mbinudita were also affected by the pandemic.
On July 30 and 31, Kawan Baik with the #KawanBaikBerbagi Sumba Leading Through Crisis program prepared food packages for the Mbinudita community.
This activity went well, not only for the distribution of basic necessities to the community but also for activities carried out by volunteers with students from SD and PAUD Mbinudita.
Volunteers carried out several socialization activities with PAUD children, including socialization about Covid-19 by coloring pictures from illustrated books about the introduction of Covid-19 sent from Bali, socialization on how to wash hands in seven steps, and socializing self-protection from acts of sexual violence.
At the same time, at the house of Mr. Kaur Mbinudita, another volunteer started distributing food packages to residents and socializing children’s nutrition to parents.
An interesting moment is when discussing the process of building a school. In early March, the residents worked together, starting from leveling the hillside of the school, installing wooden planks, gedeg walls and alang roofs.
During the meeting, the community was asked to use the natural resources around them to build schools, the residents agreed to help by making efforts to provide building materials such as stone, wood, and bamboo. The community also raised funds for the purchase of concrete blocks and mortars.
Self-subsistence from the community has an important role in the process of rebuilding the Mbinudita school.
Before the whole series of activities was over, residents and children ate the green bean porridge that had been provided. we hope the green beans are good enough to increase their energy for the long journey, back to their homes.
Thank you to all volunteers and communities involved in this activity.
The various communities in East Sumba who are involved in this activity are Sumba Volunteer, Cahaya Anak Sumba, Anugerah Anak Sumba, SOPAN (Solidaritas Women and Children), IKPML (Student Association of Lewa Student), Ngadu Ngala and Lailunggi Community Health Center, Hand Gathering, Inspiration Friends and Saratoga Motor Club.
All of these activities went well, thanks to the hard work of all volunteers.
We give all hope to build Mbinudita.Kawan Ayu, Base Camp Kawan Baik Indonesai, Kawanbaik.co, Fair Future Indonesia, the 26.08.2020.
