Access to clean water and toilets. What is it like to go to the bathroom here and elsewhere?

Fair Future Foundation Friday June 25th

How are you all? We are very happy to announce that we have almost completed the project of access to clean water, construction of showers, toilets, and seed germination place, in order to ensure the continuity of production in the vegetable garden families. Great job from all of us, from Rumah Kambera, Fair Future Base Camp in Eastern Indonesia, and of course all the local community who are also working to carry out this, but also all the other projects of the foundation.

It's a constant job as you can imagine. We have to be on site 12 hours a day in order to coordinate the different aspects of such a project while taking into account unforeseen circumstances: The geology of the ground concerning the drilling, the calculation of the slope from the drilling which is now carried out, up to at the clean water point, toilets, showers, etc. which are located a little over 150 meters away. The power supply, the installation of pumps, the 5,000-liter tank (when there is no electricity)... But also, of course, to teach families to use the facilities that we provide, how to take a shower, how not to generate waste, how to maintain the toilets, clean them of course. So many points on which Fair Future and Kawan Baik focus their attention and more.

This installation is revolutionary in its concept and approach. This is why we have determined it to be a "Pilot Project", we must multiply it by 40 in order to meet the needs of families, villages, and other communities which today do not have access to water.

After 4 days of drilling, we found clean, consumable water. A great joy for us, but also and above all for the families of this village. It is indeed the first time that they will have access to clean water, in quantity and so close to their home. This water will provide them with better health, increase their income, and allow them to have a better quality of life. And also to increase fertility, to eat better, to spend much less time on the roads in order to fetch water far, very far, too far ... Therefore women (because here, this role is still reserved for women and children), will have more time to take care of their homes, their children, or even have another occupation, another small business ...

A day of healthcare in East Sumba, village of Kangeli.

Fair Future Foundation Sunday June 20th

The truck was loaded to the face, with nearly 500 kilos of equipment, including more than a hundred bags of food that we offered to the population and children of this poor and very rural village, with very limited access to food. electricity and water.

The people here, the families live quite far from each other, this is one of the similarities of the villages of Sumba East. One or two kilometers between two houses is normal here. The majority of people get around on foot, children without shoes! There is no school in the village, so our friends from Charis Foundation organize classes in the village church… A simple church, not yet finished building.

Arrived on site, the medical teams of Fair Future and Kawan Baik are set up in the wooden house, typical of Sumba. People came, mostly children, all sick.

THE PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED ARE ALMOST ALWAYS THE SAME: NUTRITIONAL DEFICIENCIES, ASTHMA, BRONCHITIS, MANY OF WHICH ARE CHRONIC. FOR CHILDREN, OFTEN DIARRHEA, COUGH, FEVER FOR ADULTS, SKIN AND JOINT PROBLEMS, BACK PAIN… EXTREME FATIGUE TO BE BLAMED ON LIVING CONDITIONS THAT ARE NOT HEALTHY, AND SO ON!

We also distributed more than a hundred bags of food to families and a lot of medicines and of course vitamins because here, we do not eat healthily. A normal meal consists of white rice, chili peppers, salt, and sometimes vegetables. But never fruit, since vitamin deficiencies are important, resulting in a deterioration in the state of form of the most vulnerable people: children, pregnant women, the elderly, and the chronically ill.

These living conditions, the health status of people can be greatly improved with access to clean water. Yes, water is life. It makes it possible to live better, healthier, to cultivate, to eat, to drink, to wash in a better way. This is why the foundation creates access to water, to toilets by gender, using ingenious, inexpensive, and entirely biological filtration systems, without danger for the environment of the beneficiary communities.

Thank you so much for helping us. We need medicines, donations, medical supplies, food… Do not forget us and them!

Truck of Life, Truck of Health. Towards the village of Kangeli (East Sumba) for Medical Care.

Fair Future Foundation Sunday June 20th

We took the road early in the morning, with the "Truck o Life", in the direction of Lewa. In fact, a road that we know very well since it is the one we take very often to reach our school in Mbinudita, which we built last year. You remember? I think so if you are one of our frequent and regular viewers! A winding and good road lasting 1h30 then after that becomes complicated: Without 4x4, it is not possible to access the village where nearly 250 people were waiting for us, all locals. A village in which again, water is scarce, far too scarce! Food too, medical care non-existent...

In one minute +++, the road to Kangeli, East Sumba.

Clean Water Project - Mauliru, East Sumba - Truck Of Life

Fair Future Foundation Friday June 18th

On the way to the construction site of the first access point to clean water, toilet located in the village of Mauliru. It is a region where clean water is scarce, if not nonexistent. People here sometimes have to travel for miles to find it, on foot with 5-liter jerry cans.

Fair Future and Kawan Baik foundation, as part of the "Water Connections" program, wish to meet the vital needs of the population here, by building nearly 40 projects like this one. This so that people, villages, families can have clean water for a healthier life, with less disease and reduce infant mortality which is very high here, linked to the consumption of unsafe water.

Sumba Disaster. Denpasar base camp. Central collection point for food, medicine, clothing and more

Fair Future Foundation Tuesday May 18th

Dear friends, dear families,

Thousands of patients, medical care, hundreds of wounds to treat, a few tons of drugs donated, hundreds of kilos of vitamins, minerals, tens of tons of food, hundreds of thousands of liters of water, nearly 100 water tanks, including metal frames, fittings, pipes so that families, villages, communities, and vulnerable people do not die of hunger or thirst.

All this continues today, we are entering the phase of reconstruction, repairs, planning of important works too. In particular, how to supply water to tens of thousands of people who no longer have enough. How do you ensure a healthy life when food is scarce? How can they also be treated when drugs are scarce?

FAIR FUTURE FOUNDATION, KAWAN BAIK INDONESIA, AND THEIR GOOD FRIENDS THERE (SUMBA VOLUNTEER, SOPAM IN PARTICULAR), ARE DOING WHAT THEY CAN AND IT’S HUGE. IT IS EVEN MIND-BOGGLING WHAT WE HAVE MANAGED TO PUT IN PLACE IN SUCH A SHORT TIME.

We have called for help from the Swiss authorities (because Fair Future is a Swiss NGO recognized federal no: CH-550.1.057.027-8), in order to request logistical, material, and financial support, aimed at acquiring the drugs that we lack. cruelly, the tanks of 5500 liters, food, means of reconstructing houses, irrigation canals. For the moment, the Swiss Embassy in Jakarta remains deaf to our request (ref. News here).

It is extremely damaging for the population because nothing is happening in terms of medical means, food, and solutions. Once again, we are alone with the Sumba volunteers. Jakarta’s central government is doing too little, far less than it should too. Therefore, we lack everything.

Once again, Fair Future is the only foreign NGO there. Everything we do is done with the Swiss flags on our t-shirts. I believe that the nearly one hundred people who make up those who work 18 hours a day convey a strong image of Switzerland and its power of mutual aid. They all know who we are and imagine that Switzerland is helping them. But no, just a small “Vaudoise” NGO, which works miracles thanks to all of you, our donors, who make this incredible work possible.

We need many things, especially drugs and medicines, water thanks, pipes, tools, construction materials, food, water…

About water solutions, like drilling wells (a well 40m deep, through which water will flow clean to consume, for nearly 200 people, all-inclusive: pump, pipes, borehole, etc …) costs $. 2’800.-. You can support one well here.

Sumba Disaster, survey in Kambaniru and Mauliru

Fair Future Foundation Tuesday May 18th

For more than 6 weeks, we have been on the ground to face the crisis linked to the lack of water, the lack of food, of medical care. We provide care to thousands of people, donate tons of food, install dozens of tanks between 650 and 5,500 liters fully equipped, including support frames, taps, and of course supply them with clean water.

Today, we are working on reconstruction, always in an emergency because the lack of water is enormous. We will soon start drilling a well “model”, that we can duplicate in all the “dry” villages in the region, and there are many of them.

To do this, we encourage you to help us as much as possible. Fair Future has put a lot of human, material, and financial resources to overcome the emergency. Today we must count on all of you to ensure that this drama does not turn into something more dramatic. Please find a more detailed list of what we urgently need in this previous News.

The Fair Future Foundation team, who wrote this News, directly from the biggest medical, social camp in East Sumba, at Rumah Kambera base camp.
