Fair Future launches an appeal to be able to complete the medical equipment and the medicines that we lack.

We only have a few days left now to acquire the hundreds of kilos of medical equipment and medicines that we need to help children treat their wounds and the thousands of malaria cases in eastern Indonesia. Can you help us, please?

Hello everybody, how are you today, Kawan?

This an essential update on our more than urgent needs, friends of Fair Future. Today we are taking another step in this primary medical care program for kids in ultra-rural areas. We work very hard, but we lack everything.

To do this, as you read it last week, we planned to leave with the Truck of Life to bring the material related to this program. This includes the finished book and all the educational material used for the various on-site training modules for teaching staff by our medical teams.

Furthermore, we wish, must, want to add a measure to combat the Malaria epidemic, which is seriously raging at the moment here (no problem for me, I have it at the moment, my seasonal crisis), and which nearly 70% affects children under five and pregnant women.

We need to finance the purchase of almost a ton of medical equipment for the primary medical care program for children and a lot of anti-malaria medicine because there is none on site. Malaria’s Malaria mortality rate is very high; kids are dying of malaria from treatment. Read the last week article here about it.

Going back to the primary medical care program for rural kids and in short, people in rural villages do not have access to primary medical care (no water, electricity or food elsewhere, but we are changing that at our level). The “medical centres” are often several hours away on foot when there are any.

The harshness of life here in eastern Indonesia, particularly in East Sumba, means that the kids in the rural areas are often injured. Still, nothing is available to treat them unless you are the. No doctor, knowledge, medical equipment and, of course, no antiseptic or medicine. These injuries can lead to the death of a child or an adult if they get worse. We must therefore act quickly.

This program’s goal is to offer an emergency pharmacy for each rural school, training for each teacher, and a playful and highly educational booklet so that the kids understand the importance of taking care of themselves.

So if you feel like helping us by spreading the message around you, we can come up with something quickly because it is urgent.

About anti-malaria drugs: We want to order medicines to treat the affected people. Mainly children under five, pregnant women and other so-called “vulnerable” people, medically speaking. As you know, we will leave at the end of November with the medical truck loaded with medicines, but we still have a little room for anti-malaria treatments: Primaquin©, Doxycycline©, and Kina©. Help us here.

There are more than forty toilets, more than thirty tanks between 3,500 and 25,000 litres, three deep boreholes, more than fifteen kilometres of HDPE pipes that we have buried, and thousands of fittings and taps. See the full Map here.

Testimony and speaking out

Our proximity to communities and families in distress implies a duty to raise awareness to improve their living conditions or their situation.

The Fair Future or Kawan Baik teams may witness violence, injustice, and deliberate acts and must testify.

Testimony is the act of becoming aware, in private or public, of what we see or have seen happening in front of us and by documenting these acts, we report.

Sometimes Fair Future speaks out publicly to highlight a crisis, expose abuses, challenge the diversion of aid, or speak out against policies that restrict access to health care, education, food and all other forms of social protection.

Supply and logistics

Fair Future already helps thousands of families every year but we are struggling!

However, one of our main problems is that we don’t have enough equipment and not enough medicine when we should always have enough material for the work to be done and for the patients to be treated.

In particular for the response to emergencies or in the event of natural disasters, when supplies must be needed within 24 hours.

But also for long-term programs, where a regular supply of equipment and drugs is essential. Fair Future and its teams cannot respond to and deal with all requests due to a lack of resources.

Minimization of risks for everyone

The actions carried out on the ground by the Fair Future and Kawan Baik teams are based solely on needs, regardless of political, economic or other interests.

On the ground but also everywhere else, our teams communicate and dialogue on a daily basis with communities, village authorities and regional governments, to facilitate access and supply to medical care, clean water, and food sufficient for the inhabitants of villages and rural communities.

Fair Future and Kawan Baik do everything possible to minimize the risks for our teams and the villagers to provide them with what they need.

The Fair Future teams

“You never know when it will happen, but it will happen again.”

When a health or social crisis affects one of the regions in which we are already, the Kawan Baik (good friends) of Fair Future who are present will mobilize to assist.

Fair Future, as it often does, can mobilize personnel from the region with whom we often work, including a group of over one hundred volunteers. Specialists can also be sent on-site from one of its logistics bases in Denpasar or Waingapu. Our teams include medical personnel, logisticians, water specialists, and project managers.



Water Connections project in Laindatang Village

This village currently lacks access to water, resulting in widespread illness and malnutrition. Both children and adults are underweight and have insufficient access to food and water.

It is imperative that we take action to provide hundreds of people with access to clean water. The prevalence of diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, and infectious diarrhoea linked to contaminated water sources has taken a significant toll in this region. With the feasibility studies completed, we are ready to work.
