Laindatang: A 110,000-liter reservoir for a future without thirst
👋 Hi everyone, it’s Alex.
In Laindatang, water is not a right. It is a fight. Here, in the heart of one of the driest regions on the planet, 300 villagers – including more than 100 children – live to the rhythm of drought, without a stable source of water. For nine months, from February to November 2024, we drilled, searched for an underground aquifer… in vain. Faced with this brutal reality, we decided not to give up.
But here's the good news: In May 2025, we will begin constructing a semi-buried 110,000-liter reservoir. This immense reserve will capture and store rainwater, filtered and healthy, offering residents a reliable resource for drinking, cooking, and healing.
Fully funded thanks to your support, this IDR 252 million (CHF 14,000.-) project is a collective victory. It is led by engineers and architects who, in an incredible gesture of solidarity, will not take any profit, charging only for materials and labour.
Building here is no small feat. Laindatang is isolated, with no accessible road and no electricity. Over the past two years, we have restored an 8 km track by hand to deliver equipment and medical care for ongoing programs. This reservoir is a challenge and an essential technical project. Above all, it is a fight against the injustice of thirst and against diseases linked to a lack of water. It will change everything, I promise you with all my heart.
So, thank you! Thank you for believing with us that a future without daily struggles for water is possible. Every bag of cement, every brick, every drop of water is a victory against injustice. And it is thanks to you.
See you soon. Alex Wettstein
