25/12/2023 | A Warm Message from Alex: Let's Celebrate the Impact of Fair Future in 2023 Together

Dear friends and supporters of Fair Future,
Today is Christmas Day,

As the year ends, from our socio-medical camp Rumah Kambera in Waingapu, I feel immense gratitude and pride for the progress we have made together. In 2023, our programs #ZeroMalaria, #WaterConnections, #PrimaryMedicalCare, and #TruckofLife have not only reached but transformed lives in the most isolated and rural regions.

#ZeroMalaria: In 2023, the #ZeroMalaria program of Fair Future marked a crucial turning point in the fight against malaria, with systematic testing conducted on 93% of the 10,000 inhabitants of one of the most affected regions. Focusing our efforts on the most vulnerable, including children and pregnant women, we combated the increased risks associated with malaria, such as miscarriages and stillbirths. Facing the reality of water reservoirs becoming breeding sites for mosquitoes, we adopted strategies such as insecticide spraying and draining stagnant waters. Concurrently, the distribution of impregnated mosquito nets and community education were essential in preventing the disease. Our holistic approach in terms of medical care, education, and environmental prevention underscores our commitment to ensuring a healthier future for these communities.

#WaterConnections: As part of the #WaterConnections program, Fair Future has placed water, essential to life, at the center of its actions. Our initiative has led to the construction of nearly 30 reservoirs, 20 sanitary facilities, and several deep wells, ensuring uninterrupted access to clean and healthy water in several remote regions. This project has profoundly transformed the daily lives of tens of thousands of people, significantly improving their health and well-being. These structures, more than just constructions, represent a crucial step towards a better quality of life for the affected communities. Indeed, they play a decisive role in preventing infectious diseases, particularly waterborne diseases, and improving general hygiene. Thanks to these efforts, we have reduced disease transmission significantly and offered a healthier environment for the local populations. These advancements mark Fair Future's commitment to building a healthier and safer future, ensuring that access to clean water is no longer a luxury, but a fundamental right for all.

#PrimaryMedicalCare: The #PrimaryMedicalCare program of Fair Future is a real global revolution in healthcare provision, especially in ultra-rural and isolated communities. By training members of these communities, particularly women, to provide primary medical care, we have not only improved the health of individuals but also strengthened the autonomy and resilience of the communities themselves. Each training session and care provided is a step towards essential health autonomy for these regions. Women, who have become care providers, play a key role. Their involvement transcends mere care provision; it improves collective health and strengthens their community status. This initiative promotes not only gender equality but also women's empowerment, allowing them to become agents of change in their communities. This program is not limited to healthcare. It illustrates how education and community involvement can transform health management and social well-being in areas previously devoid of adequate medical resources.

#TruckofLife: The #TruckofLife, with over 20,000 kms traveled in 2023, represents much more than just a mobile clinic; it is a true symbol of hope and care for isolated communities, going everywhere no one else goes. Beyond delivering essential medical supplies, it also functions as a roving health education center, bringing vital health knowledge directly to people far from traditional care centers. In 2024, integrating our first portable ultrasound device into the #TruckofLife will revolutionize our approach to rural medicine. This advanced technology will allow for on-site precise diagnostics and specialized treatments, which was previously a major challenge in these remote areas. Thanks to this innovation, the #TruckofLife breaks down barriers to accessing medical care and elevates the quality of health services available to remote communities. The #TruckofLife improves access to medical care and contributes to the empowerment of communities through health education. Thus, it plays a crucial role in improving the quality of life and in reducing health care inequalities.

These programs are not just initiatives of Fair Future; they reflect our unwavering commitment to humanity. As a unique Swiss medical foundation, we rely entirely on the dedication and passion of our volunteers, including myself, Alex, who has been deeply involved for over 15 years as a volunteer on the ground.

During this festive season, we count on your continued support. Your help is crucial in allowing us to provide medical equipment, medications, and basic infrastructure. Together, we can continue improving thousands of people's lives, bringing health, hope, and well-being.

With all my gratitude and warmest wishes for this festive season,

Alex Wettstein – Fair Future Foundation, socio-medical camp in East Sumba – Rumah Kambera, Lambanapu, December 25, 2023.

In the remote corners of Eastern Indonesia, darkness falls rapidly, hindering essential activities like education and healthcare. Discover how Fair Future Foundation is addressing this challenge by introducing solar lamps to illuminate homes. These small solar systems not only extend the hours of light but also serve as a crucial lifeline to charge mobile phones for emergency healthcare access and educational enrichment. Join us in this transformative journey from darkness to hope, as we empower isolated communities to take control of their future.
