Dear Friends, dear Families and dear all,
Today, we celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Foundation.
Yes... Today, on February 6, 2024, while I am in East Sumba, at our Waingapu socio-medical base camp (Rumah Kambera), marks a significant milestone in the history of our Swiss Medical Foundation, the Fair Future Foundation. Indeed, it is the fifteenth anniversary of our unwavering and daily commitment to the most vulnerable communities, those from the most rural and disadvantaged regions.
This date, which goes almost unnoticed by the outside world, holds profound meaning for me, Alex Wettstein, founder, president, and head of field activities for Fair Future. It has also been fifteen years since I dedicated myself wholeheartedly as a volunteer to this noble cause.
Since the very first day of this humanitarian adventure, my mission has been to bring hope where deep despair prevailed. Each of our programs, every hospital we've built, every school we've established, and every water well we've drilled, every patient we've treated, every life we've saved has been a cornerstone in the profound transformation of the lives of the people we've touched.
However, it is crucial to remain humble in the face of the magnitude of our task. On this fifteenth anniversary, it is imperative to remember that the needs of the communities we support remain immense. The challenges we face are still many, and our resources, while precious, are constantly in demand.
In this context, I am embarking on my sixteenth year volunteering with Fair Future. Even though it feels like it was just yesterday when I started, each day brings new challenges and victories to celebrate. Even the small successes hold deep significance, like seeing a child's face light up as they receive medical care or a family gaining access for the first time to clean water, sanitation, medical care, or electricity. These experiences reinforce our belief that our efforts are worthwhile.
Indeed, our mission has never been more crucial. The words #PrimaryMedicalCare, #ZeroMalaria, #WaterConnections, or #TruckofLife are not just hashtags but concrete realities embedded in our daily actions. We fight to eradicate scourges such as malaria, tuberculosis, polio, and other infectious diseases that harshly affect the ultra-rural populations we serve.
Hunger and famine, accompanied by the resulting infant mortality, are constant challenges we must face. These problems are not abstract but integral to the daily reality of many families we support.
Understanding the devastating impact of these diseases and shortages on ultra-rural populations is crucial. We cannot afford to ignore these harsh realities as they are at the core of our commitment.
What makes Fair Future unique is that we are not just a charitable organization. The members of our board, including myself, are directly involved on the ground, actively participating in all the social and medical operations we undertake. This approach embodies our deep dedication and commitment to the cause we uphold.
On this fifteenth anniversary, I wish to express my gratitude to all those who have supported Fair Future over the years. Your donations and your support have been essential in allowing us to continue our mission. We still have a long way to go. Still, every step brings us closer to our goal of providing access to quality medical care, clean water, education, and other essential needs for ultra-rural populations.
Together, we can make a difference. Together, we can bring hope where it is desperately needed. Together, we can continue to save lives and transform destinies. On this special day, I invite all of you to join us in our mission, to become agents of change, to share our story, and to contribute to our cause.
Together, we can build a better future for the communities we serve. Fair Future would be nothing without you, our dedicated friends and partners. In this time of celebration, let us always remember that the battle is tough, but together, we are stronger and can achieve great things.
Thank you for your continuous support, and may this fifteenth year be marked by new successes and achievements for Fair Future and the populations we help.
With gratitude and determination,
Alex Wettstein |
