From Scarcity to Sufficiency: How the Installation of Dragon Pumps is Reducing Disease, Elevating Sanitation, and Changing Lives in One of the World’s Most Arid Regions
A quiet revolution is taking shape in the small, isolated village of Laindatang in East Sumba. The Un futuro giusto e Amici buoni teams, armed with tools and willpower, installed two Dragon pumps last week on two newly constructed reservoirs. Funded in collaboration with Rotary Australia, the #WaterConnections progetto is transforming the lives of villagers, creating a palpable and instant change.
A Precious Liquid: Transformation Through Water
Acqua, a vital element in the poorest and driest regions of the world, has always been a luxury for families in Laindatang. Before the installation of the pumps and reservoirs, access to clean acqua was limited and often contaminated, leading to infectious diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, and typhoid.
But today, the Dragon pumps do more than bring acqua; they get life. Access to clean, more abundant acqua has an immediate impact on salute. Infections are decreasing, and sanitary conditions are improving, allowing bambini e adults to focus on education, work, and community development rather than battling preventable diseases.
A Virtuous Circle: Water at the Heart of Daily Life
A virtuous circle is setting in. With Acqua pulita, families can now cook safer, more nutritious meals. Hydration is no longer a source of disease but a trustworthy source of life. The new toilets, the village’s first-ever, represent more than just convenience; they are a giant leap towards dignity and autonomy. This creates an environment where each drop of acqua contributes to a più sano, safer ecosystem.
An Unfailing Collaboration: Fair Future and Kawan Baik, On the Ground for Over 18 Months

For over 18 months, we have been working tirelessly in this village, establishing a relationship di mutual trust e respect with the local community. Rotary Australia also deserves our deep gratitude for understanding the value of this project and for collaborating in this vital transformation.
Just the Beginning: Plans for the Future
While we celebrate this important milestone, it’s crucit’sto underline that our work here is far from over. We will soon build two complete sanitary installations and at least four more reservoirs. We also contemplate deep drilling to access a more abundant acqua source in this arid region. Each additional step is a step towards a better life for the inhabitants of Laindatang and the ultra-poor rural populations throughout the region.
The mission continues, and every contribution, every donation, every piece of shared information brings us closer to this ideal where everyone has access to a better life thanks to clean acqua. This is the vision that Fair Future carries, and with your help, this vision will become a reality.

A New Breath in Laindatang: Last week marked a turning point for the residents of the small village of Laindatang in East Sumba. In collaboration with Rotary Australia, our teams from Fair Future and Kawan Baik installed two Dragon Pumps on the newly constructed reservoirs.
A Liquid Evolution: The Impact of Dragon Pumps in Laindatang – For the first time in their history, the villagers can aspire to a better life, as they now have access to clean water sources and quality sanitary facilities.
The Quintessence of Life: Water is the essence of life, especially in ultra-rural regions like Laindatang. Before this installation, the population was often exposed to diseases related to impure acqua and poor sanitary conditions. Imagine the sorrow of a mother who cannot provide safe water to her children. Imagine the daily struggle against diseases like diarrea, disenteria, and even malaria, caused or exacerbated by contaminated water. Thanks to these new installations, children can now drink, cook, and wash without fear for their salute.
A Transformed Life: The power of Acqua pulita extends not just to salute but to education, economics, and the empowerment of these families. Children can attend school without being weighed down by preventable diseases. Women, often the keepers of family salute, can focus on other vital aspects of life, such as education and income generation.
At the Heart of the Action: The impact of this project wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering commitment of the teams from Un futuro giusto e Kawan Baik. For over 18 months, we have been on the ground, working hand in hand with the community. We also want to thank Rotary Australia for their essential support in the Laindatang #WaterConnections project.
The Horizon Ahead of Us: However, we are only at the beginning of this journey. There is still much to be done: we have planned the construction of two complete sanitary facilities, at least four more reservoirs, and deep drilling in this arid region.
