Dear friends,
In the village of Laindatang, a place where hope had all but faded, we've been on a mission for over a year. The people here have become our family, and their struggles have become our own. Laindatang stands as one of the most impoverished regions we've ever encountered – a place where basic necessities like clean water, toilets, electricity, and healthcare are nonexistent.
We've already achieved significant milestones, thanks to the unwavering support of partners like Rotary Australia. But come early 2024, we're embarking on something even greater – a journey that demands unity, no matter what it takes.
Phase 1 – Completed: We've literally paved the way by repairing over six kilometers of roads. Our teams and equipment can now reach the village. We've built bridges, monumental reservoirs, and introduced proper sanitation facilities – a first for the village. We've installed rainwater filtration systems, laid pipelines, and set up hand pumps. We've trained and treated residents, battled malaria, and initiated a primary healthcare program, among other initiatives. We owe a special thanks to Rotary Australia for their immense support.
Phase 2 of the Program – Beginning This January: Now, we're entering a critical phase. This January 2024, we're determined to start constructing multiple reservoirs and proper sanitation facilities, especially around the school where 78 children gather every day. This is part of our comprehensive #WaterConnection program, dedicated to transforming the entire village.
Our goal is clear – three reservoirs, four toilets, eight handwashing stations, eight sinks, and a central water point accessible to all. No more long treks for a few liters of unsafe water. But that's not all. We're organizing monthly nutritional events, creating a community garden, and conducting workshops on healthy living. We want to empower this community with knowledge and resources.
Phase 3 of the Program – The Most Crucial Phase: Our commitment goes even further. With sufficient funding, we'll provide electricity to the school through a 2,500-watt solar installation, generously donated by SMART ENERGY TECH. We'll also ensure access to clean water through a deep well, reducing their dependence on rainwater during the harsh dry season.
For the next four months, we'll be on-site, battling challenging conditions. Alex, our founder, will be there, leading a dedicated and devoted team. Together with local volunteers, we'll build these essential infrastructures and create a lasting impact.
Impact of this Program: The urgency is real. Here, over 50% of the children suffer from stunted growth due to lack of water, food, and hygiene. Malaria rates are alarming, ranking second highest in Indonesia. But we believe in change. As we always say, "Clean water is the cheapest medicine."
To Conclude: This project is our commitment to humanity, and it coincides with Fair Future's 15th anniversary in February. It's a celebration of what we can achieve together, with an immense impact.
But we can't do it alone. We need your support. Whether it's funding an activity, contributing to the construction of a reservoir, or any other form of assistance, your involvement will transform lives.
Today, we stand at the threshold of a brighter future for Laindatang. Let's roll up our sleeves together and embrace this challenge.
With gratitude, Alex Wettstein, CEO and Founder, Fair Future |
