Rumah Kambera ground levelling has moved forward this week with another 30 truckloads of sirtu, the soil and sand mixture we ordered for the new centre in Kawangu, East Sumba. Spreading it took two full days in heat of around 38°C, using a hired Hitachi mini excavator.
This stage was finished today. Around 35–40% of the site has now been levelled. In the photograph, the excavator’s tracks run through the freshly spread material inside the stone boundary walls. The change is clear when we look across this part of the land.
That little machine made such a difference. After working with it, we would love to have one of our own. For now, we are waiting for rain and hoping it will come soon to help the new material settle. Two full days in that heat were a lot of work, but it feels good to see the ground taking shape for the future centre.
