Our sirtu deliveries have reached 50 truckloads at Casa Kambera, halfway to the 100 we planned. Inside the stone boundary wall, the separate piles show how the site is changing, one delivery at a time.
We are working from 6 AM to 8 PM, with 25 loads arriving each day. If that pace holds, the remaining 50 should take another two days. We will then look at what has been delivered and assess whether we need more sirtu. The quantity still has to match what the ground needs.
After that, we will level the 100 piles to make the surface as flat as possible. Sirtu, a local mixture of sand, gravel and soil, is being used to raise the lower parts of the land. Long days and plenty of work lie ahead here in Kawangu, East Sumba. This is where the future centre will bring care, medicines, training and field support together.
