Sustained Commitment in Extreme Conditions, a Changing Reality.
Transporting the materials required bringing five dump trucks loaded with over ten tons each, through steep, slippery, narrow mountain paths with cliffs on both sides. The #TruckOfLife was able to navigate through the most critical, steep, and slippery areas. These manoeuvres can be described as “Extrem.”
Over the past 15 days, Dorfbewohner, assisted by teams from Fair Future und das Kawan Baik Foundation, have built four 5000-liter ferrocement reservoirs, two double sanitary facilities, renovated an old one that the villagers never completed, dug two safety tanks, buried over 1000 meters of pipes, and organized the work of 30 to 50 people per day, mostly villagers who, along with us, are learning new things, new construction techniques, and communication skills.
We have begun drilling deep in an area where humans may have never ventured. To do this, we had to transport our drilling machine to the site, which is extremely complicated as it weighs between 5 and 6 tons. It was a government truck that kindly transported it for us. Then, we had to manually move the machine over just over 300 Meter, uphill, on slippery terrain. Today, we are over 67 meters deep, and it will take us another two weeks of work for drilling, but we lack water.
I must thank all the Dorfbewohner, the entire Gemeinschaft that assists the teams from Fair Future und das Kawan Baik Foundation on-site. The incredible logistics have led to learning programs: our teams prepare healthy meals for everyone, and Susanti und Ayu are in charge of that. They are assisted by village women who are learning what it means to eat healthily with Ayu und Susanti.
Every day, there are about 50 of us working on the sites. Rain or shine, in the scorching sun that burns us, in the Schlamm. As I mentioned earlier, we currently have neither electricity nor Wasser nor Toiletten. But things are changing because we are building a real future for this region and for the Schule and its 78 children altert 6 bis 12.
Die Truck of Life makes the journey from Rumah Kambera Base Camp zu Laindatang and back every day. It leaves Laindatang in the evening and returns to the site in the morning, bringing materials, medicines, food, vegetables, over 60 liters of drinking water for our teams on-site, and the immense 20k Watt PowerBank for light, charging our tools, cameras, mobile phones, lamps, etc… It is indeed the only vehicle that can pass through, in almost any conditions. However, the conditions are, as I mentioned, dangerous and challenging for vehicles.
We still have Zwei Monate of work ahead, including a month of educational activities focusing on clean water and healthy sanitary installations. We have organized training sessions on the following topics: learning to cook healthily for families, eating better for children, learning to wash hands and take care of oneself, avoiding getting sick, and how to fight infectious diseases through clean water, healthy sanitation, and good nutrition.
We will also establish a real vegetable garden next to the Laindatang Schule, following the community garden principle. The goal is to improve Gesundheit and, if possible, create an economic activity for the village.
Let us thank all the people who make this work possible in one of the Schlechteste Regionen in the world, where the rate of child malnutrition und water-related diseases is the highest in Indonesien, if not the world.

Laindatang’s Three-Week Metamorphosis Captured Through Photography
Documenting the Progression of Water Connections Program Phases 2 and 3
Over the past three weeks, our efforts in Laindatang have been truly remarkable. Despite facing a challenging environment with no access to essential resources such as Wasser, electricity oder healthcare facilities, we remain steadfastly committed. Every day from Monday to Saturday is spent working tirelessly on-site because of the pressing need for change.
Despite our daunting logistical challenges, progress persists as we transport materials along treacherous mountain paths. Das #TruckOfLife leads the way through cliffs und slippery terrain, demanding immense effort from our team to overcome these extreme conditions. Significant progress has been achieved by collaborating with Dorfbewohner and committed teams from Fair Future und Kawan Baik Foundation. Tangible changes can be observed, such as constructing Ferrobeton-Tankwagen, installing sanitary facilities, digging Sicherheitsbehälter, and laying pipes. The journey towards Lernen und growth is a collective effort, with approximately 30 to 50 individuals joining daily, mainly locals living nearby.
We delve beneath the surface, undertaking daunting ventures into unmapped domains that present unique obstacles. But with unwavering resolve as our driving force, we persist in pursuing success, knowing every meter drilled brings us nearer to our objective. We are overwhelmingly grateful for the unwavering backing of Dorfbewohner and the wider Gemeinschaft. Working together, we tackle logistical challenges whilst promoting a shared ethos of Lernen und Kooperation. Susanti, alongside Ayu, spearheads our efforts to provide sustenance that is eagerly embraced by local women- who in turn strive towards healthier eating habits.
We endure various hardships, including being exposed to scorching sun oder Schlamm. The lack of basic amenities like electricity und Wasser is a constant reminder of the immense task at hand. Nevertheless, we persist in forging ahead with Hoffnung as our guiding light towards creating a promising future foundation.
Our unyielding dedication is embodied in the voyage of the Truck of Life, which travels from Rumah Kambera Base Camp zu Laindatang and back. Its cargo includes crucial items such as medical provisions and materials while navigating through challenging terrain with a tenacity that serves as a beacon during difficult times. Our objective remains distinct as we move forward. Our concentration will be on Bildung and strengthening Gemeinschaften in the upcoming sixty days. Our ambition is to accomplish enduring transformation by advocating for hygienic water und sanitation habits while creating sustainable subsistence means.
Amidst poverty and illness, our efforts in Laindatang shine as a ray of hope. Let us unite to recognize the unwavering dedication of everyone involved as we work towards defeating malnourishment und water-borne sicknesses in one of the most deprived areas on Earth.
