Around One Table at Lewa, Connecting Village Care with the Health Centre
Questa nuova Picture of the Day shows our meeting at Puskesmas Lewa in East Sumba. Fabric posters and foundation books cover the table as staff and our team exchange questions. Two new Kawan Sehat agents joined us. For nearly three hours, rural healthcare in Lewa was a conversation between people who know how difficult reaching care can be.
Rural healthcare in Lewa starts with listening
We met the centre’s management and staff with Erwin, our field coordinator, Dr Narni, Susanti, Elthon, Anton and Putra. We presented the posters and books, took time over questions and listened. The response was very positive. These materials become useful through the people who explain them and the conversations they make possible.
A centre that stays open through the night
Puskesmas Lewa provides round-the-clock care, including overnight stays. Our field account puts the number of overnight patients at around 28 to 30. Many surrounding villages are far away, while the team works with limited resources.
Strengthening rural healthcare in Lewa means keeping village agents connected with clinical care. A Kawan Sehat agent can be a nearby first point of contact, within their training and with medical support. They do not replace the centre or its staff.
Making time for the people doing the work
Putra is preparing to take over from Erwin next month, as Erwin returns to his studies. Sharing this meeting also matters for that continuity.
We left encouraged by the welcome and the time everyone gave. Fair Future Foundation and Kawan Baik Indonesia work alongside these teams. The questions around this table deserve the same attention as the books and posters we brought.
