A New Breath in Laindatang: Last week marked a turning point for the residents of the small village of Laindatang in East Sumba. In collaboration with Rotary Australia, our teams from Fair Future and Kawan Baik installed two Dragon Pumps on the newly constructed reservoirs.
A Liquid Evolution: The Impact of Dragon Pumps in Laindatang – For the first time in their history, the villagers can aspire to a better life, as they now have access to clean water sources and quality sanitary facilities.
The Quintessence of Life: Water is the essence of life, especially in ultra-rural regions like Laindatang. Before this installation, the population was often exposed to diseases related to impure water and poor sanitary conditions. Imagine the sorrow of a mother who cannot provide safe water to her children. Imagine the daily struggle against diseases like diarrhoea, dysentery, and even malaria, caused or exacerbated by contaminated water. Thanks to these new installations, children can now drink, cook, and wash without fear for their health.
A Transformed Life: The power of clean water extends not just to health but to education, economics, and the empowerment of these families. Children can attend school without being weighed down by preventable diseases. Women, often the keepers of family health, can focus on other vital aspects of life, such as education and income generation.
At the Heart of the Action: The impact of this project wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering commitment of the teams from Fair Future and Kawan Baik. For over 18 months, we have been on the ground, working hand in hand with the community. We also want to thank Rotary Australia for their essential support in the Laindatang #WaterConnections project.
The Horizon Ahead of Us: However, we are only at the beginning of this journey. There is still much to be done: we have planned the construction of two complete sanitary facilities, at least four more reservoirs, and deep drilling in this arid region.
The Call to Action: We have made tremendous progress, but there is still a long way to go. Every contribution, every donation, makes a monumental difference in these people’s lives.
