Our sanitation facilities, such as this toilet in East Sumba, offer clean and sustainable environments for maintaining hygiene. By fostering health and dignity, these installations minimize disease risks and enhance the quality of life in ultra-rural communities where basic amenities are scarce.

Providing Sanitation Facilities for Health and Dignity in East Sumba’s Rural Communities: Preventing Disease and Promoting Well-Being.
Today’s photo shows a toilet facility we built about a year ago. As you can see, it is in excellent condition thanks to our choice of durable and natural materials that stand up to wear and tear over time. We used minimal cement only for the septic tank at the back, which was built to national standards.
This toilet has made a huge difference to the lives of the 80 children and 13 teachers who live and learn here, as they previously had no access to such facilities. Having a clean and safe space to wash their hands, shower and maintain basic hygiene has had a huge impact on their daily routine. Like several other facilities we have built throughout the village, this one is essential to preventing infectious diseases and promoting a healthier environment for the students and teachers and the local villagers who now benefit from its availability.
“Access to basic sanitation is not just about health; it’s about dignity. Our commitment is to ensure that even the most remote communities can live with the dignity they deserve.”— Alex Wettstein, CEO and Founder of Fair Future Foundation
This facility demonstrates what is possible with a modest investment of approximately 1,000 Swiss francs or dollars. With this level of support, we can provide essential amenities such as toilets, showers and handwashing facilities, enabling individuals to take care of themselves and their families.
We appreciate your support in combating poverty and improving sanitation and hygiene in ultra-rural communities. Each facility we build brings these families closer to a healthier life, free from preventable diseases.
Thank you very much for your interest and help.
