Following nine months of failed drilling, we've constructed a 114 m³ reservoir in Laindatang, which is entirely powered by rainwater. Almost 300 villagers, predominantly children, now have access to clean water. The project kicked off in June and is now complete. Together, we can bring an end to the water crisis.



A truck has already left for the provinces of southern Indonesia. Indonesian Borders are closed for tourism. However, visitors with Single-Entry Business Visas 211, can currently enter. Indonesian citizens from abroad, Holders of Diplomatic Visa, Duty Visa for Ministerial Level, KITAS, and KITAP are also allowed to enter Indonesia. Bali and Java are under Micro-Scale Social Restrictions to mitigate the spread of Covid-19, expect shorter operational hours on restaurants and attractions, also health protocols enforcements.

Substantial aid in the form of a donation, for an amount of CHF 20’000.-, from the Swiss Foundation (but not from its government), was donated to Kawan Baik Indonesia in order to participate in the support of patients with COVID-19, in the regions of eastern Indonesia, particularly in Sumba. These funds, which will be invested in the field, where the real needs are, will be used to acquire oxygen therapy equipment, drugs, food, antigen, and PCR tests.

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has dropped the plan to allow citizens to pay for vaccination against Covid-19 instead of waiting in a long line for free jabs under the government program, an aide said on Friday. The decision came four days after the World Health Organization said paid vaccination “could pose an ethical issue” since Indonesia is among the biggest beneficiaries of vaccine assistance from the UN-approved global procurement program Covax.

During the week of July 12 to 18, 32 provinces out of 34 reported an increase in the number of cases as 17 of them experienced a worrying increase of 50% or more; 21 provinces (8 new provinces added since the previous week) have now reported the Delta variant, and the test positivity proportion is over 20% in 33 of 34 provinces despite their efforts to improve testing rates. Indonesia is currently facing a very high level of transmission, and it is indicative of the utmost importance of rigorous implementation of public health and social measures (PHSM), especially restrictions on movement, across the country.

The situation here in eastern Indonesia, the lack of state response, in order to deal with the severity of the pandemic here. With a population of 268 million, Indonesia is the fourth most populous country in the world. Faced with the pandemic, the country seems overwhelmed and deprived of means, materials, logistical and organizational strategy, leaving tens of millions of people behind. Fair Future and Kawan Baik are asking for aid from States, banks, the International Monetary Fund in order to detect, test, vaccinate, take care of families, sick people – But also to put in place preventive actions, massive tests, and solutions for infected people. In any case, we cannot sit idly by.
