Access to clean water is a basic need that greatly influences the future of children in rural regions. First and foremost, it significantly lowers the occurrence of waterborne diseases. Polluted water sources serve as a breeding ground for pathogens responsible for illnesses like cholera, dysentery, and typhoid. The World Health Organization states that safe Clean water is crucial for preventing these diseases, especially in children who are most at risk of their adverse effects.

Picture of the Day: Water is life, and clean water means health!
This new Picture of the Day embodies hope and progress. It depicts a young girl holding a 5-litre jerrycan, turning on a tap from which clean water flows. She draws this water from a 4,500-litre ferrocement tank. Built as part of the Fair Future Foundationâs Water Connections programme, this tank marks a significant change for families in ultra-rural areas. It not only serves as a source of water but also as a means of improving health and dignity and creating small opportunities.
– “Access to safe water is a fundamental human need and, therefore, a basic human right.” â Kofi Annan
Access to clean water transforms lives. For this child, it significantly reduces the risk of serious illnesses such as diarrhoea, cholera, dysentery, typhoid, and hepatitis A, all of which are associated with drinking contaminated water. This means fewer days spent in bed sick and more opportunities to become physically and mentally stronger. Cleaner water means better health outcomes and a brighter future filled with learning and play, and ultimately, a much greater chance of thriving successfully in all walks of life.
The Water Connections initiative is an integral part of our overall mission to improve health and harmony in extremely remote areas. By providing clean water, safe sanitation, and access to primary healthcare that meets the needs of these populations, we are not only addressing immediate needs but also laying the foundation for lasting transformation.
This photo motivates us to continue the work we have been doing for the past 16 years. It reinforces our commitment to building ferrocement tanks, advancing healthcare programs, and working directly with communities. Every drop of clean water from these dozens of tanks means progress toward a better, healthier future, not just for this 5-year-old girl but for entire villages.
Thank you for joining us on this adventure.
