Kawan Sehat – Empowering Health Workers with Essential Care Guides.
In this new “Photo of the Day,” two primary health workers are seen tirelessly helping thousands of people in the ultra-rural Mbinudita region of East Sumba. They hold two books that we produced, which proudly embody their mission.
The Kawan Sehat book, seen on the left, is a guide produced by the Foundation to educate children on simple but valuable self-care methods. Those interested can access this resource here. Beyond being a simple source of information, this book is a tool that enables young children in these rural societies to adopt basic, healthier lifestyles.
On the right side, they also hold a comprehensive 14-module guide for training Kawan Sehat health workers. This publication is an authoritative medical reference book that informs them on how to treat various conditions such as wounds, bites, burns, etc. This massive manual imparts these women’s knowledge and skills to provide effective Primary Medical Care – care that sustains and saves lives. These healthcare providers are equipped with valuable skills, from caring for minors to caring for elderly patients in places where access to medical facilities is severely limited or non-existent.
“These women are the pillars of their communities. Through knowledge and compassion, they are not only saving lives but also inspiring a brighter future in the most isolated regions.”
– Alex Wettstein, CEO and Founder of Fair Future Foundation
The Primary Medical Care programme has been operational for over two years and has improved the lives of thousands of people. This is all thanks to these extraordinarily dedicated and powerful women who go beyond their role as caregivers. They are true superheroes dedicated to saving lives in their communities. The work they do can only be described as exceptional.
Their role as educators is also evident in their position. They serve in remote schools that lack basic amenities such as electricity, water, and even roads. In these precarious circumstances, they play an indispensable role in maintaining the well-being of their isolated communities, especially since it can take hours or even days to reach a medical care centre or a Puskesmas (Small Community Care Center). Their presence, therefore, remains essential to foster development in the villages that need it most.
These women emanate a spirit of empowerment and resilience. Their determined efforts shape the future of their communities, one patient at a time. In addition to medical care, they profoundly impact education, sanitation, and improving the community’s overall health.
