A new reservoir brings water closer to a school day

Eight schoolchildren stand beside a newly completed reservoir in East Sumba. Their school previously had neither water nor toilets. Bringing water within reach helps make everyday hygiene possible; protecting stored water, maintenance and practical education remain part of the work.
Eight children in school uniform stand side by side before a newly completed, still unpainted reservoir in East Sumba. Their school previously had neither water nor toilets and still has no electricity.
Water within reach makes ordinary school-day tasks more feasible: washing hands, cleaning utensils and handling food. Stored water must also be protected from contamination and treated when needed before drinking. Practical education and maintenance are part of making the infrastructure useful.
Through Water Connections, Fair Future Foundation and Kawan Baik Indonesia link reservoirs with daily health needs. Our new photograph shows the children behind this work, while dozens more reservoirs remain needed.
