#firstaidkitsumba - Happy to announce that Fair Future and @kawanbaikindonesia are launching a complete program of access to medical care, in particular first aid, this month of January 2021. This action will be implemented initially, in rural and peripheral areas of Sumba- East (NTT).
This innovative & respectful program (lasting 1 year in its implementation phase, training, collaboration with the various partners), highlights the importance of awareness of 1st aid, before being taken in hospital for treatment. A program to provide access to 1st aid for children, in schools and in their villages.
In other activities, Fair Future will publish a book that will be shared with teachers, participants in training courses as villagers and communities.
Participants will learn how to give 1st aid, primary treatment of injuries and other health problems, before professional medical treatment, if necessary.
In addition to this, the activity will also share knowledge about traditional medical treatments and the use of local natural resources.
The documentation about this program is available in English & French via the fundraising campaign. We encourage you to read it and share it around you. This action is necessary, and without a doubt, it will save lives.
Note that this activity will be conducted from our center located in Sumba-Est, by team of Fair Future and Kawan Baik, in collaboration with social, medical authorities, our partners and friends on site.
We invite you to help us by donating to this important program here. Thank you your kindness and support.

“Kabar dari Sumba” online exhibition - glimpse of life in the east, of life in rural areas of Sumba Timur. A representation of families' daily lives in remote regions, captured through young students' eyes, aged 9 to 12.
They open their houses to us, share their regular meals with us, invite us to follow them on the way to school, see their island and hills from morning until night. They capture those moments that punctuate their lives and explain them to us. Creating a story from these images is also an essential part of this exhibition and the curation process. Not only do they open their doors, but they also want to explain and tell us stories to guide the visual, in their own words. It's now up to us to listen.
From the remote region of Kahaungu Eti sub-district, in the eastern part of East Sumba district, Nusa Tangga Timur, their villages are named Kamanggih and Matawai Katingga.
Forty-eight children are the authors and artists of this exhibition called "Kabar Dari Timur" which translates to "News from the East". Through these photographs, audiences in Indonesia and worldwide can imagine and immerse themselves in a child's daily life in these regions.
Due to Covid-19 pandemic, cancellation of socio-cultural events and halt of learning and teaching activities in Indonesia, the exhibition had to be adjusted. Hence, it was adapted online, making accessible to a larger audience through smartphones, tablets or computers.
It is hoped that this medium will make it possible to re-transpose the message of this series of photographs and stories as near as possible to reality.
This exhibition will be held until March 2021, via the website sumbaphotostories.com
Join the exhibition launching live on fairfuturefoundation.org/noproblemtv at 5PM WITA!

No Problem TV - Today 11, at 5PM WITA, Gogon (@goonjourney)& Vifick (@vifickbolang) from Kawan Baik Indonesia talk about this unique project which for 3 months gave the floor to kids from East Sumba.
What is the most urgent, the biggest issue? You just have to ask them. Thanks to this photo project, the children describe to us through their own perspective, the challenges of their daily lives. Another approach to defining needs, describe the socio-cultural conditions. A project made by children for their environment. Up to us to listen!
This exhibition; a glimpse of life in the east, of life in rural areas of Sumba Timur and a representation of families' daily lives in remote regions, captured through young students' eyes.

Sumba Photo Stories continues despite everything. This program was initiated to give knowledge and skills through the medium of photography to children’s from the villages of Lapinu, Matawai Katingga and Kamanggi in East Sumba. Teach them how to put words on an image and tell a story through a camera angle.
Those images became a source of information about children’s living conditions in remote and rural areas that we can all learn something from. Started in January 2020, the pandemic slowed down the program. But we will not wait more; they have something to tell us, and we should listen.
Hence, their photo exhibition will be held online very soon, stay tuned!

Hi friends! Let's talk a bit about First Aid.. The hilly terrain of the island of Sumba makes it beautiful but is also an obstacle in several sectors; first, it makes access to medical care very difficult. Second, the lack of trained medical personnel and adequate medical facilities.
For example, in one village named Bidipraing, the only “Puskesmas” (public health centre) they have is open only twice a month to provide basic care; the 8th day of the month for children, the 16th day for adults. And just like 1/4 of health centers in the world, they don't even have access to water.
We encountered many injured children during our daily work: dry skin, unhealthy growth on newborn babies, or any type of wounds, especially on the feet. Those wounds occurred because they walk barefoot most of the time, whether it is to play, or to go to school. These injuries go untreated, causing infections that lead to more serious medical problems later. Hygiene and lacking access to clean water are also the reason why most of the injuries left untreated.
Children are not the only ones concerned; teenagers and adults are also affected. For example, a young man from a neighbours village was injured in a motorcycle accident. He returned home with a swollen foot and open leg. His family could not do anything because they have no basic knowledge of first aid care, such as cleaning or disinfecting wounds. So, we intervened and treated him to avoid infection.

Throwback - Just over a year ago, the @kawanbaikindonesia and @fairfuturefoundation team visited Mbinu Dita Elementary School, in East Sumba. The purpose of this visit was to introduce the “Kawans” as part of a socio-educational and cultural project #sumbaphotostories.
The school was simple, made of bamboo, with no “soil”, only black sand and rocks. It didn’t resist the storm that came few weeks later. In December, it collapses. And that's when the #bangunmbinudita adventure begins.
When the new reached the Base Camp in Bali, the KBI and FFF teams reacted immediately. They contacted two great architects and humans being who didin't hesitate to help and to make this project become a reality; Dina and Klick from #Archimetriz.
After long months frozen in time due to the pandemic, construction was finally able to start in August and 3 months later, the school is there, solid and resistant!
It's about 90% complete and the teams from FFF, KBI and Archimetriz are on site right now to help with the finishing touches.
Thanks to all for your support ✨

Good morning from Mbinudita to everyone,
It's an other bright day here, and we are working to make the school of #RebuildMbinuDita ready as soon as possible.
Today we are waiting our architects, they are on their way from Bali, they will arrive around 5pm on site here. Klick and Dina from #archimetriz will give us some advices and help for the finition. We need to install electricity, rain water collection system and to move the huge orange 5'500 liter thank from it's temporary location to the definitive one.
Then, if raining, people from here will have some water. About the water, people are really struggling. No rain season, no water or very very few. Not enough to ensure an healthy life. This is actually the main topic when we talk with them: Water!
If anyone is ready to help us, you're more than welcome. Water for life!
Thank you for your time, your benevolence and interest.

"What is the biggest challenge about #bangunmbinudita project?"
It's in the middle of nowhere; among hundreds of hills, on top of the highest one. Remote from everything, we can only hear the sound of the wind, a lot of excitement and impatience too.
The team who's on-site for two weeks returns today, and a second-team will leave in a few days for the symbolic "handover" of the school to the mayor of Mbinu Dita and the community. The fantastic team who help us on-site for three months will return to Surabaya on November 21, the date on which the school will officially be finished!
Looking backward, everyone involved in this project will remember one essential thing, and probably the most beautiful one; the human adventure that it was and that it still is. Meet generous and selfless souls, willing to help and to get involved, from different fields and sometimes coming from unexpected places. And timeless moments of sharing, laughing and sometimes struggling, all together.
We are not stopping there, as you know. The needs are very significant in this area in terms of access to water, food, education and more.. this school is only the first step; many projects to come!
We all thank you for making change happen.

In the village of Mbinu Dita, a line forms around the principal well; horses and dogs join in, and all gather around one of the region's only water sources. When the water discharge runs out, the impatient horses drink from the ground in this mixture of water and mud.
In the queue, while waiting for the water to come out again, some can lose patience and disputes frequently happen. For example, if someone cannot stand in line; when access to a primary need is not acquired, emotions inevitably take over.
This well is in the eastern part of Mbinu Dita. In this rural area of Sumba, access to clean, quality water is difficult. Hopefully, we will soon find solutions for a better and healthier quality of life and to avoid fights for this blue gold which should be a human right.

We are simply wordless in the face of the work accomplished in two months by all the Kawans Baik of the Fair Future Foundation and the Kawan Baik Indonesia Foundation.
Hard to believe that less than two months ago, there was nothing here on the top of this hill here in East Sumba, on the #RebuildMbinuDita site. We started from nothing, or just some ruins of the old school, some bamboo, old stones and corrugated sheets.
It took us all, including the people of the region, to imagine, create, find solutions, make compromises.. And to live every day on the site for weeks. All of this for the best reason; to offer a new school to the children who are today the future of the region and of its economic development.
But also for future generations of kids who will come every day to attend this beautiful school to "take over" from the elders. For them, for their parents, for the village, the region and the whole island.
And today, despite the global health crisis, that is our daily life and has become an essential element in our trips to Sumba from the Foundation's headquarters. This school exists today, and it is beautiful, resistant, functional. It will accommodate three classes, for three different school levels (1, 2 and 3 rd level), instead of two previously. We have been able to respond to the request of the socio-educational authorities and the needs in terms of school levels and the number of children in the region and, therefore, are really in tune with the real needs of this very poor region.
Difficult to have the right words to describe the feelings.. Nevertheless, the only two that stand out naturally are: bravo and thank you!

Some new pictures of the construction site in Mbinu Dita. As you can see, it is progressing well and quite fast regarding the logistical challenges we face every day!
As you may know, our beloved generator took his las breath last week. It was therefore necessary to find a solution as quickly as possible. Electricity for construction is essential; we need it for welding, for drilling, for sanding, for planing and for lighting when the solar panels are no longer sufficient. Evening work allows us not to suffer from the heat that rages on the site during the day. From daybreak, it is already close to 35˚ and this can increase to almost 50˚! The generator also allows us to eat - cook the rice - to charge our cameras, phones, computers, in order to write these few lines.
Therefore, we needed a replacement generator, we asked you for your help and you heard us. One of our good friend send us this message few days ago ; "I have a 3.5kwh generator which has not been used for over three years, it needs a good repair, change the oil, battery, spark plug etc ... but it should restart! If you want to organise transport, I'll give it to you! “.
No sooner said than done! On October 17, the generator has arrived in East Sumba and we will try to find a mechanical workshop that can repair it and restart it. As soon as it is ready, we will organise its delivery to the #RebuildMbinuDita site.
So a huge thank you to Gilles and Sylvie for this beautiful gift!
We are in the process of installing the window frames, the walls and the final roof which should be installed this week. We are expecting people who must come from Java to do this work because the roof covering will be made with Asphalt; this in order to collect rainwater, also dew, to store it in a 5'500 litre tank which is already on the site.
As you can see the floors are rough cement and we use natural flat stones for the finishes. It's very fun and it "matches" with the incredible nature that surrounds us. As much as we can, we use local natural resources.
If you want to support us too, the link of our Crowdfunding is in the bio - thank’s Kawans!

Warm and huge “Hello” from #RebuildMbinuDita site here in East-Sumba!
For two months now, we have been on site living the day-to-day construction of the #RebuildMbinuDita school. As you can see, this school is quite amazing in its style unlike any other school in Sumba.
The frame is made of steel, made up of hundreds of steel beams, thousands of screws and bolts. This makes it flexible and resistant to earthquakes, storms and other natural disasters. 95% of the materials used were ordered from Java, more than 2,500 kilometers from Mbinu Dita. Most everything was shipped by container, using the sea route, two weeks journey from Surabaya to Mbinu Dita.
What is extraordinary about this great human adventure is that we must all draw on our reserves, both mental and physical. Indeed, the living conditions on site are extreme, sleeping is a real challenge, taking shower is complicated. And then you have to eat healthy because the weather conditions are violent: The wind is strong, very strong, the heat during the day is overwhelming and the cold at night quite paralysing.
But now, there is this program: sublime and exciting, also intoxicating which in a few weeks will give back joy, life, hope to hundreds of children, then to their children … To all this extraordinary local community which will have the means there to develop social, health, economic and artistic activities with all of us from the foundations.

Hello Kawan's,
What is amazing about this #RebuildMbinuDita adventure is how children are involved every day working, to rebuild their future school.
Before, the school that collapsed was a bit like "the center of their world"! Those who live there in one of the most rural areas that can be found, school is simply "everything" for them.
This short sequence shows the daughter of one of the #RebuildMbinuDita teachers. Her name is Mirna, she is 3 years old.
She and her mom are here with us almost every day of the week to help: Cooking for all of us, digging or moving rocks, bring tools, make coffee, bring water for cement talking and laughing all the time too etc...
It's magic, we have never seen children who build their own school. It is like a game for them, it is also simply the absolute desire to take advantage of this unique place that will be the future school that the foundations (Fair Future Foundation and Kawan Baik Indonesia) are offering and building in this very poor region of East-Sumba.
There, far from everything, where water, food and electricity are in short supply, too rare indeed!

JOIN US in making this World Food Day an Unforgettable One.
Hello form East-Sumba to all of you,
On the October 7, 2020, a few trucks came from Waingapu to deliver the equipment that we ordered from Surabaya (equipment that arrived the day before by container), to continue the construction of the #RebuildMbinuDita school. We joined the truck that was on the way to the project site with our drone, then followed it for a few minutes.
The foundation ordered more than 60 tons of material from Surabaya, which arrives by container after a few days of sea travel. Then an hour's journey by truck from Waingapu, to finally arrive on the #RebuildMbinuDita site. Logistically speaking, it is a very complex affair!
Wish you all an amazing day Kawan's.

Ambon, Arifin, Agus and Arif. Coming from Surabaya to help us build this school, which we no longer have to name. Today, they shared with us their perspective of this unique experience.
"I'm Arifin, I have worked for a contractor company in Jawa Timur named KNA, for 15 years. One day, our employer told us that we were going to join a construction site in Sumba, with a community of volunteers.
We are used to working for big developers, villas, hotels, shopping centres and mainly on the island of Bali. So we didn't know what to expect at all with those few pieces of information...
No water or electricity on the construction site at first. So it was not only technically challenging to work, but also to live there. Therefore, we builded our own house; made from the ruins of the old school.
We have to take the time to teach every one of the volunteer. It requires a lot of patience and personal investment. So after a few days, we honestly wanted to go home; the difficulties seemed too numerous, and we did not expect to assume all these responsibilities.
When we look back now, or in front of us, of our eyes; we see this building, the school, taking shape. Every morning when we wake up in what has become our home, the volunteers arrive in the morning and start cooking for us in this kitchen that we also have built it all makes sense. For the first time, people cook for us every day on the site, and this kitchen has genuinely become ours, as has this house.
Of course, we had to deal with lots of problems, had to find solutions quickly, take more initiatives than ever, become more autonomous and rely on our team. We cannot understand the realities and the difficulties we encounter on the ground until we get to the top of this hill.
What motivates us every day to continue, to give the best of ourselves is to see the investment of each one. Knowing that so many people are involved in this project, starting with my three friends standing next to me, our company, the foundations, and the whole community. »

Hello Kawan's! A bright and hot hello from Sumba from all of us to all of you,
This is Yaspan from #RebuildMbinuDita site here in East-Sumba. Yesterday, as every 3 days, we received 500 liters water for to build the school, but also to cook, to take shower etc...
We all know how water is important right? The foundation needs water, a lot of water because we are a lot to live for several months there, in the middle of the hills very far from everything.
Yaspan and all the families of #Mbinudita suffer from the lack of water. No one here has access to it, or at the cost of several hours of walking, sometimes on foot, sometimes on the backs of buffaloes.
So for him, even 5,000 liters that come out like that from this all-blue pipe, it's like a magic trick!

Good evening!
We all are back to #RebuildMbinuDita site here in East Sumba after 2 days in Waingapu to buy materials, deal to solve some logistical issues and meet the head leader Sumba (Bupati or Governor), which is so helpful for us (thank you Pak Bupati🙏).
We're pleased to show you the work in progress (and people at work), through these few pictures taken from the sky.
It's an incredible job for all of us to organise this called "challenge", so far from everything, lost in the middle of thousands of hills. So we face all issues with great happiness and we're so happy to receive help from the magical community of Mbinudita here and from so others many people. Thank you all!
Now it's late here, we are doing a small meeting then we will go to sleep in the little house, there next to the Future school of #MbinuDita.

"Hi! , my name is Yaspan, I am 12 years old and I was born in the villa of Mbinu Dita in Sumba East, where the foundation is rebuilding my school and will bring life back to the village.
Since the start of the work, I have tried to help everyone else to build my school. And suddenly, it’s been more than a month that we have a new play area, it is on the site of what will be our new school. Exactly where our old school was located, which was destroyed by a storm at the end of December 2019.
Currently, the Kawan Baik Foundation and Fair Future Foundation are going to great lengths to build our new school and since we are part of the school, we cannot wait until it is over to just go. In fact, every day after waking up and having breakfast, we go straight to the construction site and do everything possible to help and to ensure that our new school is completed as soon as possible.
The adults will ask us to bring some stones, transfer the sand and cement, or to bring the tool they.
And when I’m tired of doing it all, then I stop. Then I ask my friend to do a wheelbarrow race. So, this will annoy our parents because they think we are going to break everything!
I am grateful to our parents, teachers, brothers and sisters for all the time they give, all this energy they put into building my school. And most importantly, thank you all. All those who are attentive to our educational situation and help us to be able to study again in a clean classroom, in a solid school building, which will not collapse, and without the fear of wind and storms."
Thank you very much. Yaspan, September 25, 2020, Mbinu Dita village, Sumba East

The Participles Vol.02 - Event by @pohontuacreatorium
The talented artists of Pohon Tua Creatorium record label woke up @rumahsanur yesterday night.
Not only music, this evening was also a stage to poetry, theater, and art exhibitions. Dadang Pranoto, a.k.a Pohon Tua, mostly hides behind amps and monitors and @alexwettstein representing @kawanbaikindonesia and Fair Future Foundation introduce the Mbinudita school construction project to the audience and friends present to this event.
Everything is about collaboration; we were thrilled to see all the support during this special night, thanks to all of them for their kindness and benevolence✨

Mbinu Dita - Everyone has been working hard on rebuilding the school for weeks now. It’s hours and hours of work and of briefings too!
On the photos, we can see the briefing from @kawanbaikindonesia team to the community who is helping us in Mbinu Dita; they are building their own school, for their kids with us.
The team also showed them the videos taken last December after the collapse and the plans of the new school and the community center who will be the heart of the community.

Mbinu Dita - The second team flight this morning to join the Kawans already in Sumba and continue to re-build the school. Everything is moving very quickly now and we are optimistic that we will be on schedule for the inauguration mid-October!
Friends from Surabaya also came to help out with their trucks full of material. It is a journey of 1’300km including 3 ferries and a small escale in Bali to say hi and take a rest!
On the pictures, you can see the progress of the work supervised by Kawan @anuroe and #archimetriz team. The first image shows the location of the public kitchen, storage space for work equipment or the space dedicated to deliveries of materials such as sand, stones or bricks.
The second image shows the measurements for the preparation of the land. Stones were painted red to mark the locations and then be able to take measurements from the aerial view. The third picture shows the school plans according to the marked points! Wonderful job, guys.

No Problem TV - September 3, 2020. Art in the service of humanitarian aid.
This Thursday we are pleased to welcome many people: The music group Soulfood a fresh n'cool RnB and Soul band (@soulfoodmusic_), the duo @truedyduality and Bintang Riyadi (@bintangriyadi) who will talk with us about the event of the September 12th.
Art and Humanity... We already talked about it last week but it is such a vast subject. But two Lives will certainly not be enough! Both interpret the human experience through words or forms of non-verbal expression. It is true that the arts have more to do with the act of creation through performance or the physical production of works, while the humanities have more to do with research and critical analysis. And yet, we are convinced that the two are closely related!
In Asia, art, or at least the work of some artists, often functions as a tool for social awareness, even a healing device! It is also often a means of political expression. In certain other countries, art could sometimes (even often) to this effect be exploited by political regimes which saw in it an ideal vector to propagate their "bad" ideas.
Art is a vector of communication and social bond. It is possible through art to reach all kinds of audiences. Most of the time art comes to the public as much as the public comes to art. This connection is sometimes lacking in the humanitarian world, which is constantly looking for ways to reinvent itself to impact a larger audience and share ideas on a cause. Art in all these forms is also a good way to mobilize people from all walks of life, even those whose sensitivity is not drawn towards humanitarianism, it is the universal language par excellence. You don't think so?
Let's talk about it tomorrow at 6PM WITA.

Mbinu Dita - After months of delay due to the pandemic, we can finally resume our work for rebuilding Mbinu Dita’s school and community center. The material is on its way from Surabaya to East Sumba including the steel structure for primary classrooms and the Bale Budaya (Round Building), bricks, roof and asphalt material, photovoltaic panels, safety tank, electrical and lighting rot. Thank you for the great help of @dragonlasercutting for the steel structure, @masonry_bali who gave us a 75 people capacity safety tank and #FalconBatuBataRingan for their bricks donation. Together, we indeed are stronger!
The first team with @anuroe, @goonjourney, @kanopi_berjalan and all the good friends is already in Sumba to set up, coordinate and start the ground and construction, everything under the supervision of our architects Dina and Klick from #archimetriz.
The inauguration is scheduled for mid-October, and we still need you, your support. So if you want to join us in this cause and make a donation, the link is in the bio! There is no small one, every cent count.
Let’s do it Kawans, and thank you so much.

No Problem TV - today, August 26 at 6:00PM
Art and Humanity Two complementary spheres...
On September 12th, Pohon Tua Creatorium and all the Kawan Baik are pleased to hold an event to promote groups and young artists as well as to support our great project in Sumba.
Therefore, we welcome Dadang Pranoto (Navicula, Dialog Dini Hari and initiator of Pohon Tua Creatorium record label), and two of his talents; the trio Manja @wearemanja and Aik Krisnayanti, singer of the duo Soul and Kith @soulandkith.
During this Live on No Problem TV, perhaps we will allow ourselves to think about what Fyodor Dostoyevsky said when he broached the subject of beauty and art: "- Art will save the world."
Fair Future and Kawan Baik are part of the new generation of humanitarian workers and we believe that art is a vector of communication and social bond. It is possible through art to reach all kinds of audiences. Most of the time, art comes to the public as much as the public comes to art.
Around this major theme and the event of September 12, a watermark point: the construction of the school and the community center of Mbinu Dita in Sumba East by the Fair Future Foundation and Kawan Baik Indonesia. During this special evening, they will support the rebuilding or our school with their art by doing auction.
It is with all of them that we will talk about the importance of art in humanitarian history. Let us remember it was artists and writers like Henry Dunant (Swiss humanitarian and social activist), who in 1830 thanks to his war stories and poems describing the suffering of the wounded and criticizing the abandonment of governments, that the Red Cross was born!
Be there folks, see you later.

No Problem TV, August 13, 2020 - We are pleased to welcome two people working for an organization here in Bali, and who are doing a lot of things in terms of food supply and distribution in favor of all those who are disadvantaged.
The “Scholars of Sustenance” organization and it's kitchen has indeed been providing thousands of servings of cooked food every day for several months now. Together we are going to talk about what all of us can do so that the bellies of many of our friends do not get too hollow and can be fed on healthy food.
Also, let's talk about addiction! How far should we go? When should we stop? NGOs have always been confronted with this eternal question: Help yes, but let us all be careful that our aid does not turn into phenomena of dependence..
See you tomorrow folk's!
