Delivering medical care and education in Hudumburung with Kawan Sehat and local partners.
Health Day in Hudumburung tackles malaria and tuberculosis and health education for families.
In Hudumburung, a remote village near Kawangu, East Sumba, the Fair Future Foundation organized a comprehensive community health day in collaboration with the Kawan Baik Indonesia Foundation, the Puskesmans of Kawangu (Local Medical Centre), the Indonesian Nurses Association (PPNI), and Rotary International. This joint medical effort illustrates the impact of collaborative efforts to provide essential services to disadvantaged communities.
The day began with the vaccination of 20 children aged 6 to 8. Coordinated by Veronika, a local Kawan Sehat Health Agent trained in health promotion, this initiative highlighted the importance of vaccines in preventing infectious diseases. During the session, families and we shared fabric-made healthy living posters. These posters are valuable educational tools for promoting disease prevention, hygiene, and nutrition.
In addition to vaccinations, the young children were screened for malaria and tuberculosis, two common diseases in the region. malaria , transmitted by Anopheles mosquitoes, remains a significant public health problem, while tuberculosis is caused by a bacterium that primarily affects the lungs. Both diseases are preventable and treatable with proper medical care and education, underscoring the importance of these awareness-raising initiatives.
Simultaneously, older students participated in group awareness sessions on hygiene practices and nutrition. Reinforced with illustrations, these messages addressed the fundamental aspects of preventive care, particularly crucial in areas where health services are minimal.
Over 150 adults were treated for common ailments, including skin infections, joint pain, gastric disorders, and vision problems. Several malaria cases were confirmed on-site, and tuberculosis screening samples were collected for further analysis. These activities highlighted the extent of the community’s health needs and the practical solutions being proposed.
From early morning until late afternoon, our doctors and nurses teams provided tireless care. Their efforts were accompanied by educational messages, reminding the community that health transcends treatment, requiring knowledge, prevention, and shared responsibility.
This Health Day in Hudumburung illustrates the significant changes possible in remote areas through coordinated medical outreach, ongoing health education, and community participation. It highlights the effectiveness of the Fair Future Foundation and the Kawan Baik Foundation in building a healthier future for vulnerable communities.
