Erwin the MediRider provides care, training, and supplies to remote villages of East Sumba.
A mobile coordinator bridging the gap between distance and medicine for Kawan Sehat health agents like Veronika.
In the vast and rugged landscapes of East Sumba, where access to healthcare is limited or nonexistent, Erwin travels not only with equipment but also with determination. A field coordinator for Fair Future, Erwin is nicknamed the “MediRider“: a mobile medical guide who navigates isolated roads and trails to reach dozens of remote villages. This time, his destination is Hudumburung, a village nearly 10 kilometres from Kawangu, where he meets Veronika, a dedicated health worker from Kawan Sehat, trained in the Primary Medical Care program.
This is also where we organised a full day of free medical care a few weeks ago, including childhood vaccinations and malaria and tuberculosis screening—remember that?
Veronika has been providing Primary Medical Care services in her community since 2022, treating wounds, managing infections, and advising on preventive health. Today’s visit is to restock his red medical backpack, which Erwin carefully fills with painkillers, antipyretics, ointments, disinfectants, and essential wound care tools. However, this mission is much more than a simple supply drop: it’s a medical mentoring session.
Together, they review recent patient records, update Veronika’s stock using the Kawan Sehat mobile app, and discuss improvements to community health monitoring. The app records every treatment administered, facilitates communication with central medical teams, and ensures consistency of care. Upon the villagers’ arrival, the meeting transforms into an informal training session: sharing knowledge, asking questions, and reinforcing the principles of practical medicine.
This partnership between Erwin and healthcare professionals like Veronika exemplifies the Fair Future model: mobile, local, and sustainable healthcare through trust, training, and tools. In areas lacking doctors, clinics, or infrastructure, Erwin’s journey ensures no one is left behind.
From one village to another, his red backpack symbolises commitment, connection, and vital action, reinforcing the foundation’s mission: to bring sustainable healthcare solutions to Indonesia’s most isolated populations.
