Medical equipment donation strengthens healthcare in East Sumba
Delivering critical hospital tools to improve care for one million people
In September, the Fair Future Foundation and Kawan Baik Indonesia, alongside Rotary and Laboratory Without Walls, delivered nearly 300 million IDR in essential medical equipment to Umbu Rara Meha Hospital in Waingapu. This public hospital serves as the primary referral facility for almost 1 million residents across Sumba, an island with scarce medical resources.
The donation included 140 carefully selected tools, such as neonatal resuscitation kits, surgical instruments. These items were meticulously identified through direct consultations with the hospital’s medical staff to address the region’s most pressing healthcare needs. This approach underscores the Swiss expertise in the field, renowned for precision and custom solutions.
A dedicated transport initiative, the Truck n’ Load, traversed the daunting terrains from Bali and Surabaya to ensure these crucial supplies reached Sumba. The handover ceremony, attended by the Regent of East Sumba, alongside doctors and nurses, was a testament to the 16-year legacy of the foundations. This collaboration, built on trust and transparency, is a shared commitment to improving healthcare access.
The initiative not only enhances local healthcare capacity but also endows hospitals with dependable tools vital for daily life-saving procedures. It epitomises Fair Future’s guiding philosophy: practical solutions through collaboration and medical intervention in neglected regions.
