How Erwin Strengthens Healthcare in Remote Villages Through Medical Support and Training
Ensuring Kawan Sehat Health Agents Have the Tools to Treat and Educate Locals
Working tirelessly behind the scenes, Erwin serves as the essential connection between Rumah Kambera—home base for the Primary Medical Care program—and Kawan Sehat health agents spread across over 20 remote areas in East Sumba. These locations are mostly inaccessible to standard vehicles and require sturdy 4x4s or well-equipped motorcycles for access. Erwin makes certain that those delivering daily medical care have everything they need.
Erwin handles preparation, delivery, and training. At the Rumah Kambera pharmacy, he collects vital medicines and organizes supplies to refill the medical backpacks used by Kawan Sehat health agents. These backpacks are not merely tools; they contain life-saving resources for treating malaria, disinfecting wounds, managing infections, and addressing prevalent illnesses in rural communities.
His responsibilities go beyond logistics. During each visit, Erwin imparts valuable knowledge. Meetings are frequently held in schools, which serve as central gathering spots for both health agents and families. He addresses questions, clarifies treatments, and trains agents on the latest medicines and medical equipment. Whenever a challenge emerges, he devises a solution.
The images in this gallery showcase his commitment. You’ll witness him engaging with health agents, testing patients for malaria, explaining health posters, and distributing essential medicines to Kawan Sehat agents. Additionally, he assists them in using the Kawan Sehat app—a digital tool that simplifies medical care tracking and supply management.
With his support, the Kawan Sehat health agents remain well-equipped and informed. They persist in their mission of providing treatment, prevention, education, and protection to vulnerable populations lacking access to doctors or healthcare facilities. This work is both essential and unique, serving as a critical solution to the healthcare crisis in ultra-rural areas.
