Our team is training Kawan Sehat health workers to measure blood pressure in ultra-rural areas where medical assistance is scarce. This program has had a significant impact, with health workers being hailed as local heroes for managing and treating high blood pressure, reducing mortality rates, and improving community health.

Essential Primary Medical Actions: Blood Pressure Measurement Saves Lives in Rural Areas.
Our team is featured in the latest “Photo of the Day,“ which shows how they train Kawan Sehat health workers to measure blood pressure as part of the primary medical care program. The photo shows Kawan Ino, one of the Foundation’s field coordinators, having his blood pressure taken by a health worker.
The importance of primary medical care in rural areas cannot be overstated. Access to medical assistance in these regions is rare, leading to infrequent basic procedures such as blood pressure measurement. Failure to manage and treat high blood pressure can lead to severe consequences such as stroke, brain haemorrhage and paralysis.
In cases of high blood pressure, Kawan Sehat’s trained health workers can administer essential medications and offer valuable advice on blood pressure management. They will also guide patients to the nearest, often distant, medical facility.
Uncontrolled high blood pressure poses serious risks, such as damage to arteries and vital organs over time without showing symptoms, which can lead to life-threatening complications. The lack of regular medical care and essential diagnostic equipment exacerbates these risks in our operating areas.
Primary medical actions are the cornerstone of our efforts in rural areas. By teaching health workers to manage conditions like high blood pressure, we save lives and create lasting health improvements.” – Alex Wettstein, CEO and Founder of Fair Future Foundation.
The program is significantly impacting Kawan Sehat health workers being recognized as “local heroes” because they can only provide lifesaving care in previously underserved areas. They are trained to measure blood pressure, identify symptoms of hypertension, and take appropriate action, thereby helping to reduce mortality rates and improve the community’s standard of living.
The Primary Medical Care Program is a remarkable initiative that provides essential medical services to underserved areas, focusing on education, prevention and treatment. This program demonstrates our commitment to ensuring equal and convenient access to healthcare for all, regardless of geographic location.
Your support of this essential program is crucial as it allows us to fulfil our mission. Together, we can help provide isolated rural communities with a healthier, more secure future.
