Fair Future’s medical teams deliver life-saving healthcare to remote villages in East Sumba, combatting infectious diseases and malnutrition while ensuring access to clean water.
Today’s photo features Dr. Narni, one of our dedicated physicians, conducting a medical check-up on a child in an extremely remote village in East Sumba. In all our programs, our medical teams—currently consisting of three doctors and several nurses—work alongside us to ensure that children and adults receive the essential primary healthcare they urgently need.
Health check-ups are crucial in areas lacking access to healthcare. We usually inform the community beforehand, enabling us to conduct medical examinations for 200 to 300 people in a single visit. These sessions play a vital role in monitoring the health of isolated individuals, ensuring early detection and treatment of diseases.
Our efforts extend beyond merely addressing symptoms, focusing on ensuring access to clean water, sanitation, and medical care. These elements form the foundation of our battle against infectious diseases such as tuberculosis (read the story of Arniyanti here), while also working to stop pollution in homes and communities. Prevention campaigns are crucial in this mission, continually supporting our medical teams with educational initiatives. You might be familiar with some of these campaigns—especially our fabric posters—which serve as resilient and effective means for conveying health messages to rural populations.
The medical team operates alongside the Truck of Life, and soon, the Truck of Load will accompany them. These trucks carry essential medical supplies, equipment, and support staff. Together, these mobile resources enable us to efficiently access remote areas and deliver life-saving medical interventions in places where no other assistance is available.
The determination of these doctors, nurses, and support teams is truly remarkable. Every day, they battle not only illnesses but also face challenges like malnutrition, poverty, and the lack of education and access to information that afflict these remote areas.
Thank you very much for your interest and help.
