Rubella continues to circulate in rural Indonesia, often unnoticed. Without vaccination and early detection, it leads to severe congenital complications and lifelong disability. Prevention exists. What is missing is access, awareness, and consistent public health action.
Plastic waste is not just pollution. It contaminates water, food, and air, directly impacting human health. In Indonesia, exposure is constant and cumulative. Without waste management and prevention, this silent crisis fuels disease across entire communities every day.
Unsafe water remains one of the leading causes of childhood illness in rural Indonesia. Diarrhea, infections, and dehydration are not accidents. They result from a lack of infrastructure, clean water access, and prevention. These diseases are avoidable with simple, proven solutions.

From March to July 2025, our team visited 269 households in Umalulu. These photos show how local cadres conducted surveys, distributed nets, and documented daily conditions to build the region’s first malaria baseline.

Quick News is our way to communicate with you in real time. Very brief texts, one photo, and a few lines to share what is happening today where we work. A child treated for pneumonia, a village that finally has access to clean water, a malaria test that turns positive, a SolarBuddy lamp that lights a house for the first time. Each post is limited to around 500 characters, so we focus on the essential facts.
These updates are written by those who are on the ground. In the back of the Truck of Life, at a Kawan Sehat health post, beside a new reservoir, sometimes late at night when the last patient has left. No big production, no staging. Just what we see, what we do, what it costs in energy and money, and what is still needed so people can eat, drink clean water, and receive basic care.
Quick News also serves as a tool for accountability. Here you can see where your support goes, which programmes are active, how many patients are treated, which villages receive medical care, safe water, or prevention tools. Scroll, read, share. These are fragments of daily life in East Indonesia, small pieces of reality that, together, demonstrate the scale of the work and the strength of the communities we stand with.

Kawan Sehat Expands with New Anti-Smoking Campaign Page
Kawan Sehat is expanding! We’re excited to introduce a new page in our children’s book promoting healthy living. This new section focuses on the dangers of smoking, especially secondhand smoke, which harms non-smokers, including children. This new page will be added to our Kawan Sehat book. Smoking is not healthy—smoking kills. Don’t smoke.
Tons of Medical Supplies for Life-Saving Programs
We’ve received the latest batch of pharmaceuticals, disinfectants, bandages, and medical equipment—hundreds of kilos worth—used in our #PrimaryMedicalCare program and infectious disease prevention efforts, especially malaria. Promoting Healthy Living: Posters for Disease Prevention
With our Rotary International partners, we’ve printed thousands of posters promoting healthy living and disease prevention in regions where diseases like malaria are endemic. These posters, available in both laminated and fabric formats, will be distributed across ultra-rural areas, schools, medical centers, and public spaces.

We’re excited to introduce a new guidebook for teachers and storytellers using our Kawan Sehat book for children in isolated rural areas. This guide offers a clear, step-by-step approach to explaining the book effectively, ensuring that vital information is consistently and clearly conveyed. It will be distributed to all teachers along with the Kawan Sehat book.
First Medicine Shipment Ready for East Sumba Delivery
The first medicines are arriving, and we’re sorting and packing them. In a few days, we’ll transport them to East Sumba with our two fully loaded trucks. Malaria in Rural Areas: A Deadly Threat from Mosquitoes
Don’t confuse Dengue with Malaria. While Dengue is common in cities, Malaria is endemic in rural areas where we work. This photo shows the source of Malaria infection, mainly transmitted by infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. Without treatment, Malaria can become severe and fatal within 24 hours. We continue the fight through our #ZeroMalaria program.
Swiss Fair Future Donates CHF.21,446 for Medical Care
As part of our #PrimaryMedicalCare 2024-2025 program, we are thrilled to announce that the Swiss Foundation has donated the first third of the annual budget—21,446 CHF (392 million IDR). This funding allows us to restock medical supplies, purchase medicines, and manage logistics for the next 12 months.
New Isuzu Traga Truck Secured for Fair Future Mission
A major change for us: After years of effort, we’ve acquired a new Isuzu Traga truck, thanks to two generous donations. This Euro4-compliant truck will transport heavy construction and medical equipment, as well as a fixed 2,000-liter water tank to rural communities without access to water. A game-changer for our work.
