SolarBuddy lamps are making a difference in the lives of people living in remote areas of Indonesia. These lamps provide reliable light, which in turn improves safety, health, and access to education. With the support of Rotary International, Fair Future and Kawan Baik will distribute 2,000 lamps this year, positively impacting the lives of 2,000 children and their families.

How SolarBuddy Lamps Are Transforming Lives, Enhancing Safety, Health, and Education for Thousands of Families Through Renewable Energy Solutions.
This new photo of the day depicts one of the many SolarBuddy lamps the Foundation distributes to ultra-rural families in villages in the Far East of Indonesia. Thanks to the support of Rotary International, a family in the village of Laindatang, where we have implemented the Water Connections, Primary Medical Care, and Zero Malaria programs, we received one of the first 200 SolarBuddy lamps. This family now has a little light in their home, making a huge difference in their daily lives.
Currently, nearly a hundred villages lack access to electricity, and over ten thousand children attend schools without electricity. Thanks to these small solar lamps, which recharge during the day and light up from dusk to dawn, children have a source of light at home. This enables them to do their homework when they get home and move around safely on dangerous paths. Injuries are common, and can become seriously infected without prompt treatment in areas where access to health care is almost non-existent.
The photo shows a happy family – a father, a mother, and their two children – who can illuminate their home for the first time. They can fetch water from the well using this lamp, cook by seeing what they are preparing, and allow their son to improve his knowledge by reading for extended periods.
Using solar lamps also reduces families’ expenditures on fuels such as kerosene, freeing up financial resources for other essential needs such as food, medical care, or education. Additionally, families protect their property and homes by avoiding the risk of house fires caused by kerosene lamps. Light in a home creates a more pleasant and less stressful environment. Daily activities like cooking, cleaning, and caring for children become more accessible and safer. Families can spend time together in the evening, strengthening social and familial bonds.
This year, we will distribute more than 2,000 SolarBuddy lamps to 2,000 children from 20 villages that we have selected. This critical operation is closely linked to our other socio-medical activities, such as the Primary Medical Care and Zero Malaria programs, which keep us busy throughout the year. By providing these solar lights, we offer more than just a light source–we provide a better quality of life, improved education, better health, and increased safety.
