How We Are Transforming Rural Lives with SolarBuddy Lamps, Teaching Children the Impact on Education, Health, and Safety.
This new photo of the day shows Ayu from Fair Future and Kawan Baik Indonesia Foundations explaining how this unique object, a solar lamp, will change the lives of these 78 children at this school. With all our volunteers and teams, Ayu talks to each of the children, explaining how this object works. It’s important to know that the time we spend behind this distribution of solar lamps with our friends from SolarBuddyand Rotary International is very significant because we do things in a way that ensures everyone understands the changes it will bring to the lives of these families.
Indeed, our two organizations, Kawan Baik and Fair Future, spend a lot of time distributing these lamps. Imagine these children have never had access to such objects; living in the dark is normal. Therefore, we have to teach them everything, and having a source of light is fantastic for them. For children, the possibility of studying after nightfall is revolutionary. The light from SolarBuddy lamps allows children to do their homework, read, and learn continuously, thus increasing their chances of academic success. An improved education opens the door to better future opportunities and helps break the cycle of poverty.
The distribution of SolarBuddy lamps always takes place within the framework of other coordinated actions, notably the Water Connections program, as seen in this photo (village of Hambarita, Laindatang), the Primary Medical Care program, and the Zero Malaria program, aimed at providing these communities with access to a healthy life. Children’s health is essential to us, and having a solar lamp helps preserve their health by reducing injuries, preventing burns while cooking, and avoiding cuts on the feet while walking on the rocky and slippery paths here.
Once again, reminding people that access to primary medical care does not exist is essential. There are no road access routes, and coming here is highly complicated. The only resources we set up are those we provide, particularly access to primary medical care with our primary medical care program. In this sense, Ayu, in this photo, distributing one of the SolarBuddy lamps to one of the 78 children at the SDN Laindatang school, is a magician for these kids.
This small lamp and this source of light will help preserve their lives; it is a small revolution that will undoubtedly improve the living conditions of these children and their families, reducing injuries, illnesses, and for example, preventing burns while cooking or allowing them to fetch water from the well, etc.
It is good to remember that this year, thanks to our friends from Rotary International and SolarBuddy, Fair Future will distribute more than 2,000 lamps to 2,000 children from 20 villages we have selected. This critical operation is closely linked to our other socio-medical activities, such as the Primary Medical Care and Zero Malaria programs, which keep us busy throughout the year. By providing these solar lights, we offer more than just a light source: we provide a better quality of life, improved education, better health, and increased safety.
