In East Sumba, countless families exist without any light source. The lack of electricity forces children to embark on lengthy journeys to school at dawn, individuals cook under perilous conditions, and nighttime study becomes a significant challenge. Solar lighting provides a safe and sustainable remedy that enhances education, health, and security for these communities.
Through the Primary Medical Care program, Kawan Sehat health workers provide treatment for fevers, wounds, and malaria in villages lacking access to doctors. They carry essential medicines, adhere to established medical protocols, and refer emergency cases promptly to prevent delays in care.

Solar Buddy | Bringing Light to Children Without Electricity
In remote villages without electricity, children must deal with daily darkness. Fair Future and Rotary International’s Solar Buddy program offers solar-powered lights to change that reality. These lights allow children to study after dark, navigate their surroundings safely, and help their families at home. More than just a source of light, these lights promote education, safety, and respect.
The Solar Buddy category of Fair Future Foundation documents how solar-powered lamps bring light and safety to ultra-rural Indonesia. Through this program, we highlight the impact of providing clean energy solutions to children and families in villages without electricity. These stories show how solar lamps support education, improve health, and foster a better quality of life. Join us in lighting up lives and creating brighter futures.

SolarBuddy Lamps Light Up Remote Villages at Night
In ultra-rural villages lacking electricity, SolarBuddy lamps provided by Fair Future and Rotary illuminate kitchens and pathways at night. During the day, these lamps recharge when hung on trees or fences, preparing to light up homes and paths in the evening. This straightforward solution brings safety and brightness to families who need it most.

Collaboration with Rotary Club Australia in East Sumba
From April 17 to 24, Fair Future hosted five members of the Rotary Club Australia. They visited East Sumba to learn about our work, including clean water projects and efforts to combat diseases like malaria and dengue. Together, we distributed SolarBuddy lights and promoted healthy living. We deeply appreciated their support.
