Quick News is the short operational feed from the field.
These updates record new activities, immediate results, logistics, meetings, small milestones and changes that matter but do not require a full article. The archive keeps current field information visible in a concise format, complementing longer reports while documenting the everyday movement of Fair Future Foundation’s medical, water, infrastructure and community work.
We ordered another 30 truckloads of sirtu for Rumah Kambera. Two full days of spreading in around 38°C heat, with a hired Hitachi mini excavator, have left roughly 35–40% of the site levelled. This stage finished on 4 November. We are now hoping for rain to help the soil and sand mixture settle.
Rotary Australia, the Rotary Club of Mandurah Districts and John Kevan support planned handwashing facilities at the new Rumah Kambera. Accessible basins and hygiene education will serve children and adults. Installation is planned for 2027, with locations, plumbing and costs still to define.
A Honda EU22i generator donated by Rotary friends in Mandurah, Australia, with John Kevan’s help brings power to community-care days in East Sumba. It supports medical equipment, microscopy when needed, device charging and education. Thank you for helping our teams care where electricity is scarce.
Fifty of 100 planned truckloads of sirtu have reached Rumah Kambera. Working from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., the team receives 25 loads daily. Two more days are expected at that pace. We will then assess whether more material is needed before levelling the 100 piles to make the surface as flat as possible.
Fair Future has sent IDR 18 million, approximately CHF 826, to Kawan Baik Indonesia for an upcoming medical care day in Bidi Hunga, East Sumba. Around 150 residents are expected, with medical consultations, practical health education and follow-up through Kawan Sehat agents planned.
Fair Future Foundation has initiated a donation of IDR 48,851,593 to Kawan Baik Indonesia for Primary Medical Care. Rotary’s equipment funding freed our own resources for medicines, supplies and field work in East Sumba, supporting continuity without resolving the wider funding need.
Rumah Kambera’s boundary wall is complete after nearly two and a half months, including construction of the central wooden lopo. Northeast levelling is planned next, with around 100 truckloads of sirtu to raise about 20% of the 4,200 m² plot by 50–60 cm for the future medical centre.
An architectural rendering of Building 1 at Rumah Kambera accompanies the internal construction document now defining floor tiles, paint colours, doors and windows for the medical and workshop areas. Some details remain to be confirmed before work moves from drawings to construction.
Work on the final side of the Rumah Kambera boundary wall is under way in Kawangu, East Sumba. The walls are expected to be complete next week. Then sirtu, a mix of sand and stone, will be spread and compacted to level the sloping north-eastern site before construction begins at the centre.
Fair Future Foundation and Kawan Sehat teams are preparing five community care days in East Sumba. Doctors, nurses, health agents and educators will combine consultations, medicines and practical prevention advice. The next day is scheduled for 3 October. The teams are also preparing health posters.
A dedicated website now follows the planned Rumah Kambera Community Socio-Medical Centre in East Sumba. The architectural rendering shows the proposal, while the new microsite explains the centre’s purpose, plans and construction progress. Follow the work as each stage takes shape.
Electricity reached the future Rumah Kambera Community Socio-Medical Centre site in Kawangu, East Sumba, a few weeks ago. Its current 2,200-watt connection supports basic construction tasks and provides evening light in the lopo when the team stays overnight on the land during the build.
