The Kawan Sehat health workers are the backbone of our Primary Medical Care initiative.
Their efforts go beyond providing medical attention, as they embody optimism, diligence, and sustenance in regions where healthcare is scarce.
They receive comprehensive training and equipment to reach locations others cannot, offering not just medication but also vital education, emotional support, and essential first aid care.
Consider the young boy in one of the photos below. He contracted malaria, an illness that can be deadly if not treated promptly. Thanks to a quick response from a Kawan Sehat worker, he received essential medication to combat the infection before it became severe. Additionally, another emergency required attention—the bite of a snake—which is a common occurrence in isolated regions where wild creatures pose constant threats. Once again, the intervention of a worker saved someone’s life.
In this collection of pictures, an incident involving a child on a rough path is depicted. The injury was minor but could have caused severe infection if not attended to promptly. One photograph showcases the immediate medical attention administered by these remarkable women when someone broke their arm after falling on rugged terrain, thereby preventing further complications from arising. Additionally, we see how another elderly individual suffering from dysentery due to contaminated water received proper treatment and rehydration thanks to the dedication of these amazing caregivers.
“Our Kawan Sehat health workers embody resilience and hope. Their unwavering dedication in ultra-rural areas not only saves lives but also empowers women to lead their communities towards better health.” — Alex Wettstein, CEO and Founder of Fair Future Foundation
These images unfold real stories, such as the tender care of a severe burn on a child’s skin or timely treatment for a spreading infection. Elders receive close monitoring to prevent dangerous spikes in blood pressure, while feverish children undergo essential therapies for infectious diseases, among other vital scenarios.
The indispensable Kawan Sehat workers prevent injuries and illnesses from worsening, which can result in fatal complications. Their prompt and effective intervention averts dramatic circumstances. This innovative program has been operational for three years now, saving countless lives along the way.
Their impact goes beyond caregiving, as they are vital in reshaping the traditional viewpoint on women’s role within remote regions. Over the past two years and counting, these remarkable individuals have earned recognition not only for their nurturing abilities but also for their leadership skills and health expertise. As such, they are empowered with greater respect and influence within ultra-rural communities.
The workers themselves captured these ten photos in the field to showcase their efforts and contributions. Beyond providing care, they document their work, giving us a glimpse into their everyday reality. Thanks to their unwavering dedication, countless lives have been saved, and communities are safeguarded as thousands of individuals enjoy better health outcomes.
