Alex and Ayu of Fair Future Foundation were Honored with the Paul Harris Fellow Award for Over 15 Years of Dedicated Humanitarian Efforts in Rural Indonesia. Dedicates Award to Axel Kahn, Jean, and Denise
Hello, this is Alex Wettstein from Fair Future. How are you? I am very proud to announce some great news on behalf of the Swiss Fair Future Foundation. Ayu and I have received the Paul Harris Fellow Award from the General Directorate of Rotary International. It’s a true honour for all of us and celebrates more than 15 years of dedication to providing essential medical, social, and clean water services to those in need in the far eastern regions of Indonesia. These efforts, Ayu, as the director of Kawan Baik Indonesia and I, as the founder and president of Fair Future Foundation, make a huge impact on the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in ultra-rural communities.
Receiving such an international award means a lot to us and to all the collaborators and volunteers working with us here and elsewhere. It encourages us to do more and implement fundamentally practical projects for these communities from some of the world’s poorest regions. Most importantly, it keeps us going, helps us not to despair when times are tough, and finds the necessary moral and physical resources. Here, where we work, in ultra-rural regions without access to water, sufficient food, internet, electricity, and medical care, life is difficult for rural communities and sometimes for us too.
“Receiving the Paul Harris Fellow Award is a profound honour. I dedicate it to Axel, Jean, and Denise, whose legacies of courage and compassion inspire our mission at Fair Future Foundation every day. – Alex Wettstein, CEO Fair Future.
Receiving this award in the name of Fair Future, in my name and Ayu’s, my wife and partner in this mission, with whom I work almost 24/7 to help these villagers, families, and children fight infectious diseases like malaria and save lives with concrete and innovative solutions, is a tremendous recognition. It also highlights the phenomenal work of Kawan Baik Indonesia, which works hand in hand with Fair Future on all our programs, just like Ayu and I do in life.
On a personal note, I received this award under my full name, Alexandre Jean-Denis Axel Wettstein, to honour my grandparents, Jean and Denise Dethare, who raised me during my early years. They were true heroes, pioneers, and resistance fighters during World War II who did what was necessary to free our world today. And, of course, to my father, the renowned Professor Axel Kahn, who inspires me. Jean, Denise, and Axel have all joined the heavens, and I miss them dearly. I dedicate this award to them today.
We cordially invite all captivated by this story to explore our photo gallery, witness this extraordinary effort, and further engage with our mission through our Instagram account.
