Atop a tall hill, two clean water tanks have emerged. The production process requires the laborious transportation of several tons of materials carried on the backs of both men and women. These tanks provide hundreds of families access to clean and safe water.
We’re pleased to share that the Water Connections project at the Mbinudita site has made significant progress. We’ve constructed nearly forty reservoirs and almost thirty complete sanitary facilities. Despite this, over two-hundred families were still without direct access to clean water near their homes. We’re happy to report that this issue has now been resolved.
This group of houses in Mbinudita village is far from the main borehole drilled almost two years ago (ref. #waterconnections project). The village’s first few houses are almost three kilometres from the borehole. Initially, we aimed to connect the borehole to households and families by burying around 3000 meters of 1-inch pipe underground. Witnessing the people of the village open a tap and access water for the first time in their lives was truly unique.
However, after testing for several months, we realized that there wasn’t sufficient water or pressure for everyone to benefit from this source of healthy and fresh clean water for their daily needs. As a result, with the villagers’ help, without which nothing would have been possible, the Foundation began constructing two enormous water tank relays based on the Ferro-cement model, which we have already accomplished in nearly forty units in this village alone. Thanks to a system of taps and valves that can be opened and closed, we can now store over 15,000 litres of healthy and fresh clean water at the top of this high hill, directly from the borehole over 3000 meters away. This is an immense achievement for our team.
Currently, there is ample water for all residents in the cluster of houses, which accommodates over 200 families from Paddi and Kokur in the Village of Mbinudita, located in East Sumba.
