Honoring Kawan Sehat Agents: Day 3 of Training Highlights Healthy Living, Malaria Awareness, and Graduation
On the last day, Kawan Sehat agents acquire essential skills in health education and malaria prevention, concluding with a sense of pride as they receive their certificates.
On the third day of the Primary Medical Care Training, participants took part in practical medical exercises and health education sessions led by Ino. The focused atmosphere aimed to enhance skills and equip Kawan Sehat Agents with tools to promote healthy living in their communities.
Elma introduced the book “Kawan Sehat” during the morning session, which aims to teach children about healthy living. Created by Fair Future and Kawan Baik Indonesia, this illustrated resource covers disease prevention, personal hygiene, and balanced nutrition. Elma highlighted its role as both a guide for the Kawan Sehat Agents and an inspiration for healthier family habits in East Sumba.
Florinda from Mbinudita village led a nutrition workshop, discussing the benefits of a healthy diet and the risks of poor food choices. Her inspiring presentation encouraged all Kawan Sehat Agents to promote nutrition awareness in their communities. Meanwhile, Ibu Mensi displayed a colourful poster on malaria, stressing that early symptom recognition and prevention can save lives. Malaria education was a key part of the training, with participants engaged in activities to raise community awareness.
Elthon, our media officer, played a simulated patient with a broken arm during medical training, allowing Dr. Narni and Ivon to demonstrate how to stabilize and treat fractures. Kawan Sehat Agents like Ibu Ani from Laindatang examined their medical backpacks, eager to use their new skills to help their communities. Alex then emphasized the importance of these workers in preventing infectious diseases like polio and malaria through early intervention and education.
A highlight of the day was when John and Melodie from Rotary International joined us live from Perth, sharing their support for the Foundation and enhancing our local efforts with a global perspective. The event concluded with each Kawan Sehat Agents receiving a training certificate, honoring their dedication to improving healthcare in the community.
The training ended with applause and a strong sense of accomplishment. The 21 Kawan Sehat Agents are now equipped with new and essential medical knowledge and tools. Their inspiring journey from students to healers has prepared them to promote healthier lifestyles, manage emergencies, and provide sustainable health solutions in remote areas of East Sumba.
