Laindatang’s Three-Week Metamorphosis Captured Through Photography
Documenting the Progression of Water Connections Program Phases 2 and 3
Over the past three weeks, our efforts in Laindatang have been truly remarkable. Despite facing a challenging environment with no access to essential resources such as water, electricity or healthcare facilities, we remain steadfastly committed. Every day from Monday to Saturday is spent working tirelessly on-site because of the pressing need for change.
Despite our daunting logistical challenges, progress persists as we transport materials along treacherous mountain paths. The #TruckOfLife leads the way through cliffs and slippery terrain, demanding immense effort from our team to overcome these extreme conditions. Significant progress has been achieved by collaborating with villagers and committed teams from Fair Future and Kawan Baik Foundation. Tangible changes can be observed, such as constructing ferrocement tanks, installing sanitary facilities, digging safety tanks, and laying pipes. The journey towards learning and growth is a collective effort, with approximately 30 to 50 individuals joining daily, mainly locals living nearby.
We delve beneath the surface, undertaking daunting ventures into unmapped domains that present unique obstacles. But with unwavering resolve as our driving force, we persist in pursuing success, knowing every meter drilled brings us nearer to our objective. We are overwhelmingly grateful for the unwavering backing of villagers and the wider community. Working together, we tackle logistical challenges whilst promoting a shared ethos of learning and collaboration. Susanti, alongside Ayu, spearheads our efforts to provide sustenance that is eagerly embraced by local women- who in turn strive towards healthier eating habits.
We endure various hardships, including being exposed to scorching sun or mud. The lack of basic amenities like electricity and water is a constant reminder of the immense task at hand. Nevertheless, we persist in forging ahead with hope as our guiding light towards creating a promising future foundation.
Our unyielding dedication is embodied in the voyage of the Truck of Life, which travels from Rumah Kambera Base Camp to Laindatang and back. Its cargo includes crucial items such as medical provisions and materials while navigating through challenging terrain with a tenacity that serves as a beacon during difficult times. Our objective remains distinct as we move forward. Our concentration will be on education and strengthening communities in the upcoming sixty days. Our ambition is to accomplish enduring transformation by advocating for hygienic water and sanitation habits while creating sustainable subsistence means.
Amidst poverty and illness, our efforts in Laindatang shine as a ray of hope. Let us unite to recognize the unwavering dedication of everyone involved as we work towards defeating malnourishment and water-borne sicknesses in one of the most deprived areas on Earth.
We cordially invite all captivated by this story to explore our photo gallery, witness this extraordinary effort, and further engage with our mission through our Instagram account.
