Together with our friends and partners, we are united in the fight against malaria. It is a mission that saves lives in East Sumba.
We are having a powerful impact in East Sumba by fighting malaria directly in homes, providing solutions, and providing education.
Our organizations, Fair Future and Kawan Baik, see the fight against infectious diseases, especially malaria, as crucial. The region has been endemic to this disease for years, and Sumba is one of the hardest-hit regions in Indonesia and potentially all of Asia. This highlights the enormity of the challenge we face.
Our strategy is global and focused on prevention from an early age. We target children aged 6 to 12 in ultra-rural schools, raising awareness of the dangers of malaria and methods of prevention. This early intervention is essential in a place where malaria’s impacts are devastating.
Our approach is practical and direct. We have a team of health professionals, laboratory equipment, and essential medicines. We embark on door-to-door missions across villages, ensuring no one is overlooked or left behind. Our objective is ambitious but crucial: to test, diagnose and educate 100% of village populations.
Once diagnosed, people infected with malaria receive immediate treatment on site, which sets us apart, especially in a region experiencing a severe shortage of anti-malaria drugs and rapid tests.
Education is the cornerstone of our mission. We educate residents about malaria, its symptoms, and prevention through comprehensive information sessions in community homes, often in locations only accessible by foot.
Additionally, our distribution and installation of insecticide-treated bed nets and indoor residual spraying form the backbone of our prevention efforts. These methods, along with the educational campaigns and distribution of informative posters designed by our team, constitute the most effective weapons in our arsenal against malaria.
We cordially invite all captivated by this story to explore our photo gallery, witness this extraordinary effort, and further engage with our mission through our Instagram account.
