The ‘Matawai, The Shades of Water’ Documentary Screening at Kulidan Kitchen & Space on June 14: Addressing the Clean Water Crisis, Health Standards, and Disease Prevention in East Sumba’s Rural Communities. Join Us in Our Mission for Universal Clean Water Access.
The ‘Matawai’ documentary underscores the vital importance of clean water access and the relentless efforts of Fair Future to transform lives in East Sumba. We strive for a future where clean water is a universal right.
We screened and discussed our documentary film, “Matawai, The Shades of Water“,” on June 14 at Kulidan Kitchen & Space. This event was held to discuss vital issues such as accessibility to Clean Water, rigorous health standards, and the fight against Infectious diseases in the country and the isolated rural areas of East Sumba. We presented our work in East Sumba through a photo exhibition. Young people from Sumba performed traditional dances and recited poetry to share their daily challenges.
Many families face a significant obstacle in many rural areas of eastern Indonesia: lack of access to clean and unpolluted water. This absence leads to poor sanitation and contributes to the spread of diseases and hardship within these communities. In response, we -Fair Future and Kawan baik Indonesia Foundations- are dedicated to providing long-term solutions by building clean water structures, teaching proper hygiene practices to the local population, and focusing on disease prevention efforts.
Around 300 people attended the “Matawai, The Shades of Water” screening during the evening. This touching documentary shows how rural communities face extreme water access problems and highlights our imaginative measures that are helping to solve them.
Made Mawut wowed the audience with his beautiful guitar skills at the event, adding cultural diversity to the program. The band Dialog Dini Hari, led by Dadang Pranoto, performed for nearly 1.5 hours, sharing their heartfelt original compositions that deeply moved the audience. It was significant as Dadang had previously volunteered with us in Sumba for three weeks (see the Dialog with Dadang on Youtube – Episode 1 – Episode 2)
During the event, all participants openly shared their feelings and expressed their hopes for a world where clean drinking water is a fundamental right for everyone, not just a privileged few. This event was crucial as it allowed us to deepen our understanding of this issue, engage in valuable discussions about the important issues at hand, and receive encouraging support. Fair Future is committed to working with ultra-rural communities to achieve sustainable transformation. We are grateful for everyone’s support and look forward to continuing toward universal access to clean water.
We cordially invite all captivated by this story to explore our photo gallery, witness this extraordinary effort, and further engage with our mission through our Instagram account.
