Fair Future Foundation and Rotary International Join Forces to Address Malaria and Poverty in Mahu, East Sumba. Through the #ZeroMalaria and #KawanSehat Programs, We Provide Clean Water, Medical Care, and Solar Lamps to Improve the Living Conditions of over 8,000 People.
Our collaboration with Rotary International in Mahu is crucial to combating malaria and improving living conditions. Together, we are bringing hope and lasting change to the most vulnerable.
During our recent visit to the region of Mahu, in East Sumba, with Rotary International, our primary goal was to reach the most isolated and deprived areas affected by endemic malaria. Mahu lacks basic infrastructure and access to medical care, and there are severe shortages of food and resources.
Our #ZeroMalaria and #KawanSehat programs in Mahu have been pivotal in providing clean water to the Mahu/Wairara Medical Centre, which serves over 8,000 people in the region. The trip involved repairing the region’s only solar water pump, which had been out of order for two years, and engaging with local families to understand their needs. We also distributed #Solarbuddy solar lamps to illuminate the lives of over 100 families in the area, as access to electricity is lacking.
The challenges in Mahu are significant, with the region lacking access to electricity and facing high rates of infectious diseases and malnutrition. The villagers live well below the extreme poverty line, making their daily lives extremely difficult. Our action is essential to bring about lasting change and improve the living conditions of these vulnerable populations.
Our goal is to eradicate poverty in these regions and improve the living conditions of vulnerable populations. Through our programs, we aim to fight infectious diseases and malnutrition and provide access to sanitary facilities. We believe that together, we can bring about lasting change in these communities.
The trip also involved meeting with the villagers and local communities, all of Marapu religion, to explain how we could help them, especially with our programs to fight infectious diseases and malnutrition and provide access to sanitary facilities. We also distributed information posters for a healthy life in schools and provided children with medical care, new clothes, vitamins, and footballs. Football, as a universal sport, brings joy wherever it is played.
Mahu is one of Indonesia and Southeast Asia’s most malaria-affected regions, and urgent attention is required. A spirit of adventure and solidarity has marked our work with Rotarians and local partners as we strive to make a meaningful impact in this critical region.
