Experience the life-changing impact of SolarBuddy lamps in Laindatang, a remote village without electricity. Those lamps provide essential light for safe travel and uninterrupted education after dark.
Providing SolarBuddy lamps to children in remote areas like Laindatang transforms lives by illuminating treacherous paths and enabling safe study environments at night.
As part of our Water Connections initiative to improve living standards in isolated communities, we recently provided SolarBuddy lamps to Laindatang. This village, home to over 600 individuals and an establishment of 78 students, lacks electricity.
The challenges these young people face are immense. Navigating steep and risky paths in the dark, often in the rain, they travel up to 10 kilometres between their homes and school. These trips are exhausting and dangerous, with frequent bruises from the uneven terrain.
When night falls around 5:30 p.m. in Laindatang, the absence of light prevents children from continuing their studies when they return home. This lack of lighting significantly hinders their academic development. However, something as simple as providing every household with a SolarBuddy lamp can change the outlook for these children, allowing them to study and complete their homework in the evening, thus transforming their future.
In Laindatang, the simple act of providing a small Solar lamp has transformed children’s lives, allowing them to study safely at night and navigate their world with newfound confidence.” — Alex Wettstein, CEO and Founder of Fair Future Foundation.
Thanks to the generous support of Rotary International and our committed volunteers, we could distribute these lamps. These events are more than just lamp giveaways; they are immersive occasions involving all members of society in enjoyable activities, creating unforgettable memories for children.
These lamps represent more than just light; they symbolize education and safety. By having access to these beacons of knowledge, every child can learn and thrive, regardless of the isolation or remoteness of their village.
Providing a SolarBuddy lamp to every child in Laindatang is a crucial investment in their education and safety. Through these effective interventions, we help create a better future for young people by improving access to knowledge and protecting them from potential harm.
