A week of action and collaboration with Rotary Australia to improve rural healthcare in Sumba
Together on the ground to strengthen clean water and medical access in remote villages.
From March 16th to 21st, 2025, we welcomed John Kevan from Rotary International to our Rumah Kambera Health and Social Care Base Camp for the third time. This week was not just about project reviews; it focused on sharing a common vision, engaging in open discussions, and strengthening our efforts for ultra-rural communities. Together with Alex, Primus, Ino, Susanti, and Elthon, we explored our collaborations with Rotary, including the SolarBuddy project, which will distribute 2,224 lamps starting in May to provide lighting solutions for families.
We also discussed our Primary Medical Care program, delivered by Kawan Sehat agents who offer essential health services and conduct health education campaigns that empower communities with crucial medical knowledge. We reviewed the “Water Connections” initiative, which involves constructing eight 5,000-liter ferrocement tanks and a large 110 m³ water storage facility to ensure access to clean water.
Additionally, we talked about developments such as the construction of a new storage facility and a potential small laboratory to facilitate diagnostics and enhance the capacity of local health services. As an engineer, John provided invaluable insights that helped us better understand donor expectations regarding concise, clear, and impactful reports for sustainable support.
His tour of our infrastructure and contributions to the workshop equipped us with new tools and a roadmap for future needs. This visit demonstrates the strong collaboration between the Fair Future Foundation, the Kawan Baik Indonesia Foundation, and Rotary. It emphasizes the importance of funding and the value of being on the ground together to create lasting impacts that improve accessibility and quality of healthcare in underserved areas.
We cordially invite all captivated by this story to explore our photo gallery, witness this extraordinary effort, and further engage with our mission through our Instagram account.
