A Kawan Sehat health agent receives her official certificate in rural Laindatang

This new Photo of the Day captures a significant moment as Erwin presents a certificate to Ibu Anggi, a dedicated Kawan Sehat health agent, in the ultra-rural village of Laindatang.

This scene is more than just a handshake—it is a recognition of commitment, skill, and a shared vision for improved healthcare access. Ibu Anggi, one of the 21 health agents meticulously trained over the past three and a half years by the Fair Future Foundation and Kawan Baik Indonesia, has successfully completed the Primary Medical Care programme. Erwin, our dedicated field coordinator, embarks on extensive journeys covering hundreds of kilometres to visit each health agent. His visits are crucial—they involve restocking medicine kits, reviewing patient reports, discussing medical cases, and providing ongoing support.

Each visit is a comprehensive one-on-one session lasting over an hour and a half. With a meticulous review of patient lists, diagnostics, medication inventories, medical queries, and data gathered through the innovative Kawan Sehat app, this process combines technical accuracy with human empathy, building trust and boosting the skills of both agent and coordinator.

For Ibu Anggi, this certificate means more than an achievement; it signifies a transformation in the remote regions of East Sumba. Here, where patriarchal structures often dominate, a woman becoming a certified health agent marks a significant societal shift. Through this recognition, Ibu Anggi gains empowerment and affirms her vital role in community health, embodying autonomy and societal value.

The Kawan Sehat programme goes beyond primary medical care to promote dignity, utilise local expertise, and empower those deeply familiar with their communities. Thanks to this initiative, thousands of individuals—women, children, and entire families—have gained immediate access to treatment, first aid, and healthcare advice in the absence of doctors.

Notably, each certificate issued bears the endorsement of both the foundation and Indonesian Medical and Social authorities, reinforcing the formal recognition of their crucial role.
