Also, as part of the Water Connections project by Fair Future and Kawan Baik Indonesia foundations, we are finalizing the construction of the second sanitary facility.
Having clean water and sanitation means avoiding exposure to countless diseases, starvation, and death.
According to the same principle, but as seen in these images, it differs from the first one built less than a kilometre away. The guide is an installation that respects people and nature. We always give pride of place to innovation in everything we do: For example, wastewater must be able to be used for irrigation water needs, or the septic tank must be healthy and not contaminate the ground. We create tools for this. Most of the time, use what nature gives us (apart from cement and iron, of course). And it works amazingly well.
The principle of work is well anchored in all of us here. I explain to you why these vital installations can be different in their external appearance: Our two organizations give a voice to those who are the beneficiaries, that is to say, the villagers themselves, and that is just fundamental given that we all work together here on the ground. Families, villagers, and the Fair Future Foundation team up with some of their foundation board members. Working together does not mean that we impose anything; quite the contrary: it is together that we choose the best solution for all of us.
Clean water is one of the few things in life that never fails to live up to expectations. It’s hard to overstate the importance of having it. It’s probably impossible. Clean water changes almost everything
We sometimes spend a lot of time there, but talking about such a change in life is essential: Imagine, there has never been water here, toilets, or showers. So we help people in rural areas define their needs and guide them in choosing what they want. And then how to use these facilities and stay healthy thanks to these new infrastructures.
We repeat it and experiment: Fair Future estimates that each Swiss franc invested in water and sanitation generates four francs of economic return. That’s why investing in this area is such an effective way to build stronger, more resilient communities.
Let’s not forget this, among many other things: Clean water and better sanitation reduce the burden of poor health on families and give women more time to earn their income. Ending open defecation means people are safer – especially at night – and the land is cleaner, and crops are healthier.
For us, the teams of Fair Future and Kawan Baik, it’s a combination that works well: Their wishes combined with what can be done in terms of costs but, above all, efficiency and feasibility.
A beautiful day to you from Sumba East.

What is this image gallery about? Although access to clean water continues to be a problem, it isn’t easy to ensure it is safe. In this sense, Fair Future is putting in place measures to ensure that it is sustainable. By tests, of course, filtration systems that use natural elements. But also, and above all, the education of users on “how to keep the installation clean and in optimal working order” is part of the “water Connections” program. On the other hand, it should be noted that individual practices also play an essential role in determining the quality of the water that we make available to the villagers here in East Sumba. Thank you so much for your interest Kawan.
