Improving Healthcare Access and Services in Isolated Villages: Fair Future’s Effort to Combat Malaria
The prevalence of malaria cases in Laindatang, a remote village in East Sumba, has reached alarming levels, making this area one of the most malaria-affected regions in the world.
The Fair Future Foundation, in collaboration with Kawan Baik Indonesia and Sumba Volunteer, has embarked on a remarkable initiative to fight malaria in East Sumba, Indonesia. The disease severely impacts the region, and the program aims to bring necessary screening, prevention, and treatment to the village of Laindatang.
With the support of Rotary Australia, whose presence in our program signifies their recognition and commitment, this medical-social operation involves nearly a hundred people, significant equipment, materials, and medicines. These include microscopes, thousands of rapid blood tests, medications, generators, disinfection tools, larval elimination tools, and impregnated mosquito nets.
The mission’s primary objective is to eradicate malaria in the Sumba region, safeguarding the lives of vulnerable groups, particularly children and pregnant women. Sadly, many individuals succumb to this disease yearly due to the lack of access to adequate medical care and limited awareness of malaria symptoms.
The tragic loss of fifteen pregnant women within a few weeks due to the absence of medical intervention underscores the urgency of our cause. We pledge to change this reality and ensure that no life is lost to malaria.
Preventing malaria in ultra-isolated villages is no easy task, but Fair Future and all of its friends are working tirelessly to make a difference. By focusing on education, improving hygiene and working with local stakeholders, we offer a lifeline to vulnerable communities.
Our efforts not only prevent the spread of malaria, but also give villagers the knowledge and tools to protect themselves and future generations. It is through such initiatives that we can pave the way to a healthier, malaria-free future for these ultra-isolated villages.

The Fair Future Foundation, in collaboration with Kawan Baik Indonesia and Sumba Volunteer, has undertaken an extraordinary mission to combat malaria in East Sumba, Indonesia. This region is one of the most affected by the disease in the world. In these images, we arrive at this program in the village of Laindatang, Mbatakapidu. The presence of Rotary Australia (John Kevan) is also a great joy and a sign of recognition for all of us. Their participation in this unique program in the world in its implementation would indeed not be the same without them.

The objective of this mission is to eliminate malaria in the Sumba region, by saving lives and specifically targeting vulnerable groups such as children and pregnant women. Unfortunately, this disease kills an alarming number of people each year, particularly those who do not have access to adequate medical care or who are not sufficiently aware of the symptoms of malaria.
The fact that fifteen pregnant women have died in just a few weeks due to lack of medical intervention is a heartbreaking tragedy that compels us to take action. We are committed to changing this reality and ensuring that no one loses their life due to malaria.
